Be honest with me. If I put an unmarked pot of soy sauce next to an unmarked pot of Balsamic vinegar... Would you know the difference?

From the wash the laundress sends
My collars home with ravelled ends;
I must fit, now these are frayed,
My neck with new ones London-made.

Homespun collars, homespun hearts,
Wear to rags in foreign parts.
Mine's at least as good as done,
And I must get a Ruskin one.

It finally happened! My son gave me a book recommendation.

I've just discovered that Amarreti biscuits can be made from apricot kernels. Then looked up some of the worrying cyanide-creating properties of apricot kernels.

Do you remember when companies used to feed their staff? I do but I can't think of one contemporary company that does.

Snippets of my art buys from @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social - cropped to protect the artists. Jackie Duckworth's "Tiger Tiger"🐅 and Mike Horsfield's "Fortress". I really hummed and arred about spending but I can tell you now, I have no remorse whatsoever.

Erg. Now I'm supposed to dress respectably for this gallery view. What about behind-the-scenes help makes you think I'd be good at this?

Even the postman has started giving me the "you can't be reading all these" look.

I bloody am.

In the first ten pages, I thought this was going to be a lost cause. It is real pulp. However, somewhere my brain switched off and I just enjoyed the ride. Difficult to recommend, but short and entertaining in an out-of-date way. #trojan #paperback #sf 🚀👩🏼‍🚀

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Autumn stubble on fire off the shoulder of Fulbourn. I watched C-buses glitter in the dark near the Tesco Superstore. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Here's a tip: when you're driving through flooded road sections, try to accelerate a *little* through it. This throws the water away from the car momentarily, stops you from getting a screen full of brown and lessens the chance of getting stuck in a BAD place.

Don't side splash pedestrians!

This excerpt from "One Against Time" by Astron del Martia hasn't aged well. Interesting though, as a warning against predicting constants in futurology. #sff #books

I have this morbid knack of finding great writers who have just died. Recently, John Burnside, but it seems to happen to me a lot.

Frustrating 😞

I'll say something serious:

Vitamin D pills.💊

Then I'll say something silly:

Craft an artificial sun using simple household items and a magnetic jar 🌞

Four o'clock on a dull grey November Saturday afternoon and what little daylight we got is fading out of the sky and I feel glum and antsy.

@emmanewman.bsky.social does a really great recap, it sounds off the cuff, which if true shows what a star she is! NOTE: Read or listen to Mythago Wood beforehand as there are unavoidable spoilers.

Lovelies, if your Sunday needs a cosy, nerdy chat about Robert Holdstock's Mythago Wood, then the latest episode of Starship Alexandria can help! starshipalexandria.com/episode-8-my...
Also features @aptshadow.bsky.social mentioning insects and me NOT mentioning ST:TNG (shocking, I know!)
