This is a good post! I keep using 1234 or 12345, but only for visualization stuff like jittering. For real stuff, I go to random dot org (based on atmospheric noise) and create a random 8+ digit integer, generally one for each brms model I run in a project

We're going to need journalists to stop talking about synthetic text extruding machines as if they have *thoughts* or *stances* that they are *trying* to *communicate*. ChatGPT can't *admit* anything, nor *self-report*. Gah.

🎉 Big news! After 5+ years of consulting work under the R for the Rest of Us name, I'm launching Clarity Data Studio.

The name confusion was real – people thought we only did courses, not knowing about our consulting work building reports, websites, and more.

Discover how the mall package simplifies LLM integration in R!

In @camlivio.bsky.social's guest post, she walks through how she uses mall to summarize dense PDF reports, extract key entities, and visualize the frequency of relevant terms, all with #RStats.

Just learned that my 9-yo has been clicking no on all GDPR cookie banners because she thought it was some aggressive baker advertising everywhere, and “while cookies do enhance experiences, that seems like a lot of dessert and mom probably doesn’t want to buy them and we can just make them at home”
Many events led me to become a sociolinguist, with Labov's work — like for every linguist I know — being an immeasurable influence. He worked as an industrial chemist before becoming a linguist, reminding me always to keep learning, many and different things. RIP, William Labov.
interesting. this made me think that AI-generated text is more likely to conform to Haspelmath’s maxim of economy but not to the maxim of extravagance.
