(Building a Ferris wheel out of junk in the backyard is not the grand romantic gesture my subconscious thinks it is.)

Anyway, I then proceeded to dream living out the events of this proposed novel and, guys. It was SO GOOD. BRILLIANT. AMAZING...

Last night I dreamt my agent quit (they didn't) and my publisher dropped me (they didn't) but it was maybe going to be ok because a different publisher on another floor of the same building (I've never been to the Titan offices) was willing to let me give a pitch.

And I had SUCH a pitch...

This is a hugely important thread for anyone looking to sell short SFF. (For those not following along, Asimov/Analog/F&SF, which were some of the top magazines in the space, were all bought by a company who's trying to push some shady shit in their contracts.)

Also, all the teenagers who turned this into their entire personality of "yeah, say it! Adults are all sell-outs!" of which I knew too many.

I didn't actually read it until my 30s, which I think is actually the right time? It gives you the perspective you can't have in adolescence.

I constantly have the fretting of "ok, this car smells bad and the driver is a little aggressive but not to the point that they'd ever be pulled over for it. But I don't want to destroy someone's livelihood" which is a bonkers calculation to have to make.

Today's food experiment - bacon-potato roses. Verdict, very pretty, nice enough flavor, but the texture shows it's a stunt food invented more for the camera than a pleasant eating experience. (Too soft bacon, too crunchy potato edges.)

Got my flu and COVID shots last night, so today is a day of genial stupidity.

(My personal side effects are about 24 hours of malaise and, like, a 50% drop in IQ. The brain fog is intense, but at least I know from experience it will lift.)
