カーター・マッケンドリ (he/him) I enjoy that media you hate. Computer nerd. Japan dork. Horror geek. Comic book guy. Sci fi fanboy. Not necessarily in that order. Enthusiast, not connoisseur.

Apparently this is called a "phoenix" connector, and I sincerely hope you never have a reason to know that

I've never tried to teach a language in a professional context but from observing it happen a lot I can say anecdotally that one of the big challenges in going from 1 language to 2 is convincing the person that other languages are real and not just someone obfuscating their native language for fun

When I find a torrent with one person seeding it, I like to imagine a Windows XP machine, dimly lit by a failing light bulb. Running 24/7 for 15 years, no utility company dare pin down it's location. But there it is, bleach.avi, long forgotten in an insane asylum basement.

A building maintenance guy is coming into my apartment tomorrow so I need to tidy up enough that I don't get reported as a fire hazard. I admit that YES that is a lot of very dry newspaper next to what COULD be described as exposed wiring, but we're doing important work in here, damn it

Nothing better than walking home through the night after watching a great movie in the cinema. Completely changes the most trivial experience.

This is a much better job of documenting the trip I took this month (in contrast with my attempt, which was just posting the word "hokkaido" with no further context)
thread stopped midway cuz I met my buddy @ca.rter.io up in sapporo— and since we’re too wild and crazy guys, I was too occupied having fun to post. but to catch up — some more pics from hakodate->sapporo. it’s a great ride but I need to do it when the sun isn’t shining in my eyes half the trip.

I think I flew too close to the sun last week and have now officially fallen victim to The Cold™ that is Going Around™

There should be a service where you can just get a stranger to come over for 10 minutes and tell you whether or not your apartment smells weird. Free of judgment, for a modest fee.

The trailer for this was so brutal I was just gonna give it a miss, but Matt's review is making me reconsider... 🫤
Mamoru Hosoda’s “Scarlet” shows what hybrid animation can do: fluid battles, detailed facial expressions and a Shakespearean narrative painted on vast digital landscapes.
Mamoru Hosoda’s ‘Scarlet’ takes on ‘Hamlet’ with bold visual departure
The Oscar-nominated director re-imagines the Shakespearean tale as an animated quest through the afterlife.

Following up on this, the rumor/urban myth about Bontam Ame making it so you don't have to pee seems to be legitimately true. Or the placebo effect is hard at work. But either way it solves a problem!!

Signed this, then went to Koenji and had a great time
...the timing is just a coincidence, this was planned days ago, but still!
I encourage anyone who's ever had a good time in Koenji to add their name to this petition. Neighborhood planning should prioritize those who live in and enjoy a place, not people who want to drive cars through it.
