What if AI isn't leading us to utopia or Skynet—but instead is amplifying the extraction in our current economy? From a circular investing bubble, the hollowing out of bullshit jobs, to AI slop we are just amplifying the same playbook.

AI as Accelerant: Amplifying Extraction, Not Escaping It
Forget utopia or Skynet. AI isn't a revolution. It's a powerful accelerant for the extractive capitalism already breaking our world.

The devil is always in the details. This detail is a little devil. This "board of peace" will likely sell off Gaza assets to wealthy developers for cheap. Or something else that doesn't benefit Palestinians.

If you want to know one source for where the drive to violence is coming from, look no further than Jesse Watters. He might as well give the next shooter a gun.

In "End Times", Peter Turchin speaks of the rise of political violence when you have gross wealth inequality, an immiserated public and fighting between the elites and counter elites. Historically this leads to a disintegration of societies. We are deep in this cycle in America.

Much like the Democratic party in the United States, political parties around the world are selling out to private capital. @graceblakeley.substack.com highlights the UK Labour party selling out the working class.

Really clear chart showing what I think many people feel - climate disasters are accelerating while we fail to act decisively
Here’s the simple truth that Donald Trump doesn’t want you to know:

Climate change is making extreme weather disasters more frequent and severe.

If we do not get our act together, this will only get worse.

Very true
Elites and institutions have not “collapsed.” They have not “changed their tunes.” They have not “failed.” They are not “cowards.”

They were and are simply been focused only on their own self-preservation and profit.

Nothing has changed. They simply made a cost benefit analysis, and fascism wins.

This--that Signal would rather exit a market than undermine the core security and privacy technology that protects the people who use Signal--always still holds. We don't change our principles based on jurisdiction, legislative attack, or time of day...
I'm guessing this still holds
We will never undermine our privacy promises and the encryption they rely on. Our position remains the same: we will do whatever we can to continue ensuring people in the UK can use Signal, but if the choice came down to being forced to build a backdoor, or leaving, we would leave.

"Equity-washing" is the story private equity tells to align a worker's loyalty with an investor's short-term profit motive. It offers the feeling of ownership to motivate the workforce. A bonus for workers, while the temporary owners keep the long-term wealth.

FWIW Hogg is right and we need to reboot the Democratic party - which by necessity requires replacing current ineffective Dems with new candidates who can lead with policies that actually help Americans

Peter Turchin's research team built a database of hundreds of societies across 10,000 years to try to find out what causes deep political crises. There are two clear drivers: The first is popular immiseration—when the economic fortunes of broad swaths of a population decline.
