The Associate Education Minister, David Seymour, tells schools that there are no exemptions - basically the state will serve you inedible, under or over cooked food, fit only for pigs - and the children will eat it.

Seymour refuses to let Christchurch school ditch lunch provider
Haeata Community Campus has had “enough” of sub-par school lunch deliveries, but David Seymour says he won’t let it get out of the Government contract.

David Seymour's failed lunch program 'saved' us 130 million which has resulted in non-delivery, liquidation of a major provider, 2nd degree burns to a child, and more food is being wasted than the previous scheme.

Nicola Willis cost us ~800m according to NBR.

Both still ministers.

Great thread. The centralised too-big-to-fail corporate contract Seymour chose for school lunches is *everything* these fools always say about the public sector. It's beyond irony.
The school lunches thing is bad on its own, obviously, but it also says so much about this government's foundational belief that govt become more efficient and do more with less by leveraging private sector Betterness.

Listening to this AM’s Nine to Noon feature on outsourcing elective surgery to private providers and the ASMS rep pointed out that every equivalent surgery in the private sector is more expensive than public - every single one - and it just sort of sat there, unremarked upon for rest of the segment.

The thing that shocked me most about this was Libelle was sub-contracting to Compass which surely means two lots of margins have to come out of that $3 lunch.

I hate to think how small the actual food cost is
LaBelle who were sub-contracted by Compass to supply 125,000 school lunches a day have gone into liquidation, this school lunches debacle keeps serving shite #NZPol
