I'm in for $200 if I get to write regular opinion pieces with a lot of swear words.

Chris Murphy: "There's a lot of history that has taken place in the East Wing & it was just destroyed without any conversation in the public, without any consent of Congress. It's absolutely illegal. That visual is powerful b/c you're watching destruction of the rule of law as those walls come down"
THIS IS ILLEGAL!!!!
None of this is legal! People are choosing to break the law! Other people are choosing not to hold them accountable! What the fuck!!!
I called Klobuchar's DC office. I hope others will, too. I'm so angry. At this and every other vote that these Senators are making that pretends that these are normal times.
Yesterday two Trump-appointed judges lifted a stay on Trump sending the National Guard into Democratic cities, and today Coons, Durbin, Fetterman, Hassan, Heinrich, Kaine, Kelly, Klobuchar, Reed, Schiff, Shaheen, Welch, and Whitehouse are giving him yet ANOTHER appointment. Totally fucking useless!
By a vote of 66-32, the #Senate invoked cloture on the nomination of Harold D. Mooty III to be US District Judge for the Northern District of Alabama.
C. Health care shouldn't be treated like a business. Hospitals are a common good. Ambulance service is a common good. We all might need need these things, and it's to everyone's benefit to have them available to everyone, without horrible financial risk when you actually need them.
A. Rick Scott is a fraud who committed massive Healthcare fraud.
B. You know what would create a "free market" for people to go where they think they will get the best care? Medicare for all. Let people, not insurers and not employers, choose where they go.
Ron Johnson: "Let's bring free market competition back into the healthcare industry. Let's bring back way more consumer choice. Rick Scott, an expert in healthcare, he's working with people like myself and the White House, let's design the Republican plan."
Hmm. OK how about:
Owamni for Native and upscale
Hola Arepa for arepas
Travail for unique and creative gastronomy
Baba's Hummus for great hummus bowls
Volstead House in Eagan is a hidden speakeasy with great drinks
Al's Breakfast for pancakes and a unique experience
Looking for anything specific? Or any particular location?
If you turn to page B5, you get a black and white photo that shows (kind of) how many people were there. It would have been SO EASY to get photos from the dozens of statewide protests, in this allegedly statewide newspaper
If you turn to B5, you get this black and white photo that shows *part* of the massive scope of the Minneapolis protest. @startribune.bsky.social this is terrible. You are not up to the task.
Coverage of No Kings in the print MN Star Tribune is terrible. Story is in Section B (State & Region). Number of protesters is "throngs" (not the actual 10s of thousands). Main picture is the start of the Minneapolis protest that shows about 50 people, and a couple dozen more in St. Cloud.
Terrible job in print edition though. Not front page; relegated to the "state and region" section. Zero mention of the 50,000+ in attendance. The picture that shows how massive the crowd was relegated to black and white on B4. @startribune this is journalistic malpractice.
I did same. Can't believe we have government accounts 100% dedicated to trolling. I mean, I can believe it, given ~everything~ but it's so so so dispiriting.

A reminder that Trump and his supporters violently attacked the seat of our democracy in 2021. Same people who are trying to frame "No Kings" protesters as the hate America crowd.

Now Trump is sending $40 BILLION to bailout Argentina.

This would fund at LEAST a year of the ACA tax credits millions rely on to afford health care.

Meanwhile, Argentina has universal health care.
U.S. support for Argentina could hit $40 billion
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said an additional $20 billion in private-sector loans for Argentina could effectively double the value of a U.S. rescue plan.

As a historian, I can certify that we are in the bad times. But bad times eventually end.
In the meantime:
• Figure out a small way to help someone
• Figure out a small way to fight back
• Figure out a small place to find joy
• Figure out a small way to grow and thrive

And do it often.

NEW @motherjones.com: Nobody in that GOP group chat praising Hitler or making racist comments was a “kid,” as JD Vance claimed today

I tracked down their ages. (Weirdly, it seems nobody else did.)

Eight of the 11 in the group chat range from 24 to 35. Ages of others are unclear.

But… no “kids”!
No one in the GOP Hitler chat was a "kid"
We checked. Sorry, JD Vance.

ICE arrested comedian Robby Roadsteamer for singing a parody of Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” in a Jeffrey Epstein the Giraffe costume outside their facility.

He sings “If you hate brown people / and you are a Nazi” and ICE thugs grab him and drag him into detention. No violence—just speech.
"And yet here she was, telling me that she didn't want to associate with me anymore because of who I am."

Actually it's good to associate (or not!) with people because of who they are! It's kind of the basis for actual friendship!

Award-winning pain researcher here. This is not something that can be done. Hope this helps.
“In nursing homes, neonatal units, and ICU wards, researchers are racing to turn pain—medicine’s most subjective vital sign—into something a camera or sensor can score as reliably as blood pressure.”
AI is changing how we quantify pain
Artificial intelligence is helping health-care providers better assess their patients’ discomfort.

They are great, and Jennifer Welch also told off Rahm Emmanuel when he tried his typical bullshit on their podcast. They do not let famous people slide AT ALL.

Just think of how many TT faculty lines, graduate stipends, and resources for teaching and research this kind of money could buy...
the more things change, the more they stay the same in college football (coaches being showered in cash for not working)

My publisher’s been very patient. I’m not doing everything I said I’d do to promote this book (out in a few weeks) because I’m an organizer in a city under federal attack. My days are full and emotionally exhausting. Any help getting the word out means a lot. It's a book people need right now.

It’s a Watergate-level crime every damn day in this administration, and Congress is appallingly unwilling to exercise its Article I obligations to check executive branch power.

Reprehensible, inexcusable, and indescribably dangerous.
