Day 2 of #ArtAdventCalendar

Today's new protein is Arc, a protein found in the brain, which can form icosahedral capsids (like viruses) containing its Arc mRNA cargo. They are linked to regulation of synaptic plasticity and forming long-term memories.

Proteins are dynamic structures, but structural biology often shows them as static snapshots. Inspired by long-exposure photography and generative art, I built ProteinCHAOS, an artistic tool inspired by molecular dynamics to capture protein flexibility over time, much like long-exposure images.

If there is big biotech announcement happening, #MolecularNodes is being used for it. I only had the realisation in the past day, but it's strange to have my software very quickly become the visual face for $100M announcements and massive scientific breakthroughs.
