Elizabeth Gilbert’s Latest Epiphanies

Took not even a year to transform the former "land of the free" into a corrupt, repressive, authoritarian 3rd world police-state. Sad to see ... hope we can get rid of all the violence-addicted corrupt right-wing scum worldwide (and put them all on trial); and hopefully sooner than later ... :-(

NCAR is quite literally our global mothership.

Everyone who works in climate and weather has passed through its doors and benefited from its incredible resources.

Dismantling NCAR is like taking a sledgehammer to the keystone holding up our scientific understanding of the planet.

Unbelievable.

The sensible thing now is to impeach & remove Trump. America made a huge unforced error electing him in 2024, but we don't have to crash out because so many were hoodwinked.

Toss him out. Let him fend for himself like the rest of us here in Real America. He's not my deal, and not yours either.

Everyone is wrong about cars, so here's the recipe:

- Severe penalties for driver violence, including mandatory prison. Deterrence works.

- Fire all existing traffic engineers and replace them with safety engineers. Hard move! But neessary.

- Regulate the US car industry. We don't do it today.
Didn’t realize your post was the source of all the discussion I’m seeing. But I think engineering/easement is a much better approach than ubiquitous camera enforcement — and without the moral hazard of generating revenue for local gov.

But I agree that DWIs are a much more difficult problem.

And killing, well, that's as bad as it gets.

In most of Europe you'll go to jail for 3-5 years if you hit someone with your car and injure them. If you kill them, 10 years or more.

"But how will they get to work" they will walk down the hall from their prison cell when it opens, is how.

"This is deeply sick public conduct…." Trump's America-hating henchman Stephen Miller asserted the President's authority to inflict state terror without any legal constraints. Trump left Abrego Garcia in an El Salvadoran prison because he could.

This version of America is very bad.
Remarkable how brutal the ruling against Trump on Abrego Garcia truly is: It details flagrant and malicious abuses of power all throughout. Trump and Stephen Miller were testing their ability to spread lawless state terror. But the court held the line. 1/

The worst in the Trump admin are wanna-be influencers, performing for cameras and getting their validation through screen feedback loops.
