I pick up my flute every day and at some point I know I’ll play this beautiful piece of music by Gluck. One day I’ll do it justice, but I’ll always listen to Jean Pierre Rampal, and to my friend who studied under Rampal in Paris. Music is how I keep sane in a mad world.

This is the first Thanksgiving for Sophie & Colin Hortman without their parents, Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and Mark Hortman who were assassinated along with the family dog in an act of political murder. National guards troops were not deployed to the state in response.

Russian economy in big trouble. Devaluation, mass layoffs, tax increases, a costly war. Shame there are so many Russian assets in the White House.

What we're seeing with all this new data is that the Brexit damage is only getting worse as time goes on. Companies aren't "adjusting". They're either leaving, downscaling or going under. From manufacturing to services to culture to farming & fishing, the decline is snowballing rhe longer we're out.
New analysis by the politically neutral House of Commons library says that Brexit:

- cost the average Briton between £2,700 and £3,700

- lost the Treasury up to £90bn a year tax revenue.

Rachel Reeves budget options could have been very different!

This is quite a compliment, @zackpolanski.bsky.social
“Imagine if we in Sweden had a party leader on the left like Polanski.” And thank you, Juha Videman. It’s been a long wait. Years since we had a leader we could be proud of.
Tänk om vi i Sverige hade på vänstersidan en partiledare som Polanski.
@zackpolanski.bsky.social has changed the narrative in a handful of months. And the media and the established political class are unable to look away. Every headline, every jibe, only points to the fact that they cannot look away. Phenomenal.

The script, the director, the acting, this marked a high point in British tv drama in the 1980s and has stayed at the top. #EdgeOfDarkness always fingered corporate power and a weak state, while the energy resources and water needed to feed data centres and bitcoin are the new plutonium.
Great news - one of the best mini-series ever with a dazzling & eccentric screenplay by Troy Kennedy Martin & superb direction by Martin Campbell is back on iplayer.
If you haven’t seen it then you’re in for a real treat.
Come for Bob Peck, stay for Joe Don Baker.

An ostensibly mainstream outlet regularly platforming someone who is so overtly racist that she would ban British-born minorities like Rishi Sunak as well as naturalised citizens like Nus Ghani from parliament + tell Muslims to stop practicing their faith or to "remigrate"

bsky.app/profile/pete...
This is one of the changes in the UK media landscape that should be more remarked on: the fact that being a very open, proud, outright racist is no longer a bar to being a pundit on some TV stations (in this case GBN and Talk TV).
Lucy White advocates a ban on "non-natives" from office, citing Rishi Sunak and Priti Patel.

So she is referring to UK-born ethnic minority citizens. (Her argument would apply equally to Shabana Mahmood, Kemi Badenoch, Suella Braverman and others)
