Hello world! Happy to discuss movies, music, TV series, books, video games and most other things.
I've accidentally switched to a "normal" sleeping schedule. I don't like waking up at 06:30 and being tired this early.

On the other hand, when I'm a night owl I have trouble falling asleep and basically never get sleepy.

Normally I'd have four hours of series and movies ahead of me now.

I'm rewatching Curb Your Enthusiasm and Leon Black is easily my favorite character in the whole series. Genius portrayal. Hilarious improvisations.

Leon Black, and the feisty Susie Greene. Best sitcom without a laugh track ever.

One Battle After Another is on HBO Max now. Fantastic film!
I was sceptical for the first 40 minutes or so, but ended up loving the very long film. I'm putting One Battle After Another between Phantom Thread and Boogie Nights.

Maybe it's right to rage against the algorithm. The art form of the album has basically been dead to me. I hardly ever listen to full albums anymore.

On the other hand, there's no way I would've listened to 2663 artists in 11 months if I only had listened to full albums.
I found a Pixies album I'd missed: Head Carrier (2016). Great stuff! Felt a bit like vintage Pixies. The guitar sound in All I Think About Now reminded me of Surfer Rosa.

Many classic loud/quiet dynamics.

Favorite tracks:
All I Think About Now
Tenement Song
Might as Well Be Gone

When I look back 10, 20, or even 35 years, I don't view that person as me, but rather a version of me that only existed at that point in time – which is technically true. It feels like a different life.

Does everyone feel the same way? If the MWI is true, then things really get interesting.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire has a brilliant and heartbreaking scene, which requires the viewer to notice a detail and realize it refers to a pivotal scene earlier in the film. A cheap flashback would've ruined the moment and the impact.
You know when movies and series show a flashback to an earlier scene just to remind the audience, because the director thinks we're not smart or attentive enough to make the connection without it? I don't like that. It's cheap.

Made me think of this.

‘Not second screen enough’: is Netflix deliberately dumbing down TV so people can watch while scrolling?
Streaming insiders have claimed they’re being made to rewrite scripts for viewers who use their phones while watching. Is this the end of prestige TV? Or pure fiction?

Imagine waking up to this view every morning. Nanga Parbat. I miss mountains. I feel drawn to them. Just looking at mountains gives me comfort.

How come no one tried Stadia? I was using Twitter at the time and not even the gamers there gave it a chance. Stadia was bloody awesome. I'm sad that it ended up in the Google cemetery.

I'm still using the Stadia controller with Windows.

Am I a bug magnet, or is the Bluesky app for Android barely functional? It logs me out every other day or so for no reason.

It doesn't respect the system's dark/light theme. When writing direct messages, the keyboard blocks the entire text box so you can't see what you type. Etc, and so forth.

Hot glögg is so damn good. It's a Swedish mulled wine consumed around Christmas. I'm drinking the non-alcoholic version, so I guess it's more like a spicy squash.

I think they put cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and ginger in it. Don't sleep on the glögg. Get yourself a bottle.

Well, fuck. At least Netflix is better than MAGA Paramount.

The Big Bang is more about cosmic evolution than cosmic origin. It's like describing how an acorn grows into an oak tree. Where did the acorn come from?

How can something be created from nothing, and if something has always existed, where did it come from? Ex nihilo nihil fit.

How come anything exists at all? Why is there something rather than nothing? Join me on my existential journey.

"I can't believe how strange it is to be anything at all."

Fuck. Netflix is buying Warner Bros and HBO and HBO Max.

I've read and watched so much about quantum physics that it has started to affect my dreams. I mindfucked myself too hard. I need to stop.

After quantum entanglement, I'm trying to wrap my head around the Many-worlds interpretation (MWI). It's even more bonkers.

The theory isn't fringe: it's just unproven. I like the idea of it. I find it comforting. Unfortunately, getting empirical evidence is impossible.

A handful of these films are from 2024. One is from 2022. 👀
These 20 titles aren’t just the highlights of the last 12 months. They’re the ones we’ll likely be going back to year after year.

From an epic of resistance to a personal reimagining of a gothic horror classic, welcome to the best movies of 2025.

My favorite 2025 series and miniseries:

Pluribus
The Chair Company
The Studio
Adolescence
Dept. Q
Task
Dexter: Resurrection
Alien: Earth
The Breakthrough

The Chair Company is the biggest pleasant surprise. So bizarre and original. Highly recommend. Only one episode left now. 🪑

I thought of various analogies to make it easier for me to understand and visualize quantum entanglement, like spinning coins, but it's better to just think of the actual process.

Tarantino handles languages expertly in Inglorious Basterds, making the characters switch languages seamlessly in a way that makes sense.

Another great example is Chernobyl. Nearly all characters simply speak British English. That works.

It's primarily the bizarre fake accents that ruin it.
I've reached the conclusion that the biggest crime against cinema after dubbing, is the bizarre tradition of pretending English with an accent is an entirely different language. It makes no sense.

Probably the 15th time I complain about this on social media. Pet peeve.
