I guess I mean 'new' in the way of there are whole shops in the mall dedicated to selling them? (At least in my experience, this reach is pretty new. I'm the mainstream here I guess lol). Idk I think it's cool to walk through a shop and see neat lil figures w original designs getting bought by teens

Yeah it's interesting, the blind box phenomenon is kinda the new avenue for traditional illustrators and designers to get paid? They make some designs and then sell those as product, and while I'm sure the profits are split between them and the production company, I always think "good for them" lol
