when do we officially rename the Department of Homeland Insecurity
it’s reprinting right now - get it!!!
spooky season is here, Sept is my birth month (when i like to reread a fave), & that del Toro film looks incredible. time to revisit a book i’m still so proud to have worked on - The Annotated Frankenstein from @harvardpress.bsky.social
The Annotated Frankenstein from Harvard University Press, on shelf with dead roses and a wine bottle candle holder
This, because there are so many books always coming out! Also a clear indicator that that bookstore’s readers are seeking the title, so they look again at a book on their radar they may not have stocked for space (ha) reasons
Yes! Indies have only so much shelf/storage space & an immense number of books always coming out. Orders matter!!!
I don't know how this all works at indie book shops but I noticed recently when I ordered a book that my indie didn't already have, they soon added a few copies to the shelf. Correlation isn't causation, but I like to think that my ordering maybe helped beyond just my own purchase.

We need to teach people the difference between being uncomfortable and being unsafe. Because the discomfort of the safest people is endangering the most vulnerable, all day every day.

hard to overstate how the immigration crackdown changed disaster response overnight

the most vulnerable people were already hesitant to accept help from large orgs like red cross, they are now terrified fearing delivery sites/shelters will be targets for ICE or that info will be shared to fed LE
in fairness, humans have always disappointed cats 🙃
heat will be a problem every day
Ticks all the boxes:
-extreme cruelty to people
-death camp test run
-environmental destruction
-misappropriation of taxpayer $
-illegal seizure of land

Floridians are protesting, but this is bigger than Florida.

Abolish ICE. FEMA out of DHS. Safety for all immigrants and our wild spaces.
On Monday, Kristi Noem said that FEMA will fund “in large part” the construction an immigration detention center (aka “Alligator Alcatraz”) in a remote part of the Everglades.

Forget hurricane season—FEMA funds are going to new prisons
The Trump administration is finally going to spend a decent chunk of Federal Emergency Management Agency funds—but it’s going to be used to build an immigration detention center in Florida. And ...

This excellent article from NBC News is a must read to show what administration cuts have done to my NWS colleagues. Further evidence of what I said in my Substack article, no way is NWS fully staffed or fully mission ready.
