the most recent numbers reported this year were 97k circulation, so a roughly 13% decline again

unless there's a crazy drop in the next couple of months, that seems pretty in line with recent years and certainly not uniquely terrible
airplaneian.com
The circulation data simply doesn't support the conclusion that the Washington Post is being punished for the boneheaded decisions of Bezos as much as we'd love for that to be true

maybe some other data does, but I haven't seen it
airplaneian.com
I mean we have the 2025 circulation numbers so we can see that YoY (from 24 to 25), the percent decline is about 13%

We also have historical numbers that are similar both for the Washington Post and across the industry

from 22 to 23, Wapo's decline was also 13% and the industry avg was 14%
Here's comprehensive alt text for this image:

it's very easy to dunk on wapo because they suck, but if you actually compare across the industry the narrative that they're facing severe consequences for bezos' interference seems more or less untrue
airplaneian.com
i get why the wapo circulation thing is sticky, but it looks like their circulation decline is more or less in line with the decline across the industry we've been seeing for years

A massive storm that brought a record storm surge to Alaska was poorly forecast, and “this is one of the clearest possible examples to date where missing upper air soundings due to NWS constraints may have led to a degraded forecast.”

Sunday a massive storm surge event from the remnants of Typhoon Halong caused catastrophic damage in remote western Alaska. Thanks to @alaskawx.bsky.social for his help with this deep dive, including the forecast challenges in an area dealing with reduced NWS upper air soundings

airplaneian.com
don't do this

lasers literally draw a line to your location and LE aerial camera systems have a feature called 'geopointing' that makes it easy to save your location just based on where the camera is looking (and ofc that camera is recording everything in visible light and IR)

This is such an astoundingly bad idea that I kinda think it’s a false flag or an op of some sort

Merits aside, it is insanely easy to be caught if you do this and the punishment for doing this is much more severe than you’d guess.
