Watched ep 1 of the new Stranger Things last night which was nice given I couldn't remember a thing about what happened in the previous series given it was almost 4 years ago.

I saw grumblings the past couple of years (me included) but this year it seems like everyone* has finally, vociferously, turned against #whamageddon in the strongest of terms. Good.

Travelling to London for work stuff & Xmas night out tonight so wearing my 'cool' new Xmas shirt. But don't take my word for it. Take the word of the woman next to me on the train who just said 'nice shirt'.

I beg every minister being interviewed to do this.
If I were Rachel Reeves I would simply ask Laura K and Nick Robinson why they were repeating right wing talking points found on X as a basis for their questions. Stop being defensive.

Yep. To the RW press, a Labour government isn't just an 'our side lost' situation. To them it's completely unacceptable & should not be allowed.
What we're seeing is exactly what we saw in the late 1940s, the late 1960s and the mid- to late 1970s: a concerted and hysterical campaign to delegitimise a Labour government, and indeed the very idea of Labour governments at all.

Me: 'help me fix this code'
Copilot: Here's the corrected code and this is why it works'
Me: 'It didn't work'
Copilot: 'You're absolutely right! Here is a version that works'
Me: 'That didn't work'
Copilot: 'You're absolutely right! Here is a version that works'
Repeat x5 until I work it out myself.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

Woah, glad I still have the original DVDs.
Jesus Christ, the "remastered" Beatles Anthology documentary they re-released is filled with AI slop. Look at John and Paul's faces, and the "T" on Beatles.

devastating thread
I am forever explaining assignments which, to me, feel fairly basic. I do offer some creative options, which need a bit more context. But so many of my students seem unable to follow instructions, even when I return to them multiple times, write them down, or turn them into games or quizzes.

Once again for the hard of thinking: streaming shouldn't count towards the chart unless you've specifically chosen to stream the song in question. If it turns up randomly on someone else's plalylist or by Alexa's whim, you haven't chosen to listen to it so it shouldn't count.
Interesting development in the race for this year's UK Christmas no. 1, which counts streaming. Unfair advantage? Sharp practice? (Mentioned in this article on UK charity single for Palestine: www.theguardian.com/music/2025/n...)

Not re-watched any of the Beatles Anthology on Disney+ yet but the best moment of the whole thing for me is when Ringo gets emotional near the end and sums it as "just 4 guys who loved each other...a hotel room here...a dressing room there...it was pretty sensational" 🥹. Hope they keep that bit in.
