Can you put into words what that purpose is? You and the frog have really become icons of this protest.

There’s been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing. We had a bunch of other inflatable people here last night, too. I saw people playing Twister the other day.

What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them, to some extent, that we’re actually not that afraid.

It also dismantles their narrative a little bit. When they try to describe this situation as “war-torn,” it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying [U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security] Kristi Noem is up on the balcony staring over the Antifa Army and it’s, like, eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit.

I haven’t really gotten into listening to guided meditations, but when I’m overwhelmed, I listen to the velvety tones of @margaret.bsky.social on her podcast, Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff, and that has essentially the same regulatory effect on my nervous system as a guided meditation would. 🙏🏻

Feeling heartsick and homesick for Chicago.

Between the joy/hope over each Cubtober win, juxtaposed with the rage/despair over the fascist ICE escalations… the whiplash is brutal, and I just wish I could be there to support in person.

I love Pittsburgh, but my heart will always belong to Chicago.

Exercising/supporting joyful expression is another form of resistance. They want to hijack your reactivity and your nervous system. Refuse that disregulation.

Protest discourse has dominated the last couple days but resisting fascism can also look somewhat mundane rather than flashy. Making a different hire. Buying a meal for a homeless person. Sending $20 a month to a bail fund, an abortion fund. Stuff that helps the lives of people most targeted MOVING.

One reason the fascists are using terror tactics, bellowing draconian threats and demanding compliance so loudly is because they have real weaknesses around numbers and capacity. Their grip is weaker than it looks and the resistance they're already getting scares them.
