Yeah... decided to switch to a new/old PFP for a while. It's not recent, but one of my more flattering favorites. (Mattie the Wonder Horse from the last one deserves a li'l break time back at the barn...)

It and I am old enough that we used to call them 'avatars,' kids.
Good 🧵 from Kat. And she's right: This is the embodiment of the privilege of the rich and powerful that results in their victims of SA (especially the very young) being told, "No one will believe you and we will ruin your life if you try."
There’s literally a straight line between Trump, Epstein, and the retaliatory lawsuits against women who came forward with allegations against celebrity men like Amber Heard and Blake Lively. They all even have the same PR folks. And yet people still refuse to see it

And the snowstorm-ageddon that's supposed to hit most of the country has begun out here in central NM, to be expected. I'd post a photo, but there's not much to show except some initial snow squalls.

Another friend put it to me like this: "ICE has made the classic Nazi mistake. They've invaded a winter people in the winter."

Really good thread 🧵, and one that gives me hope. People ARE resisting this nightmare—and it's not just Dems and independents. There are even Republican voters who've had enough of this fascist bullsh*t.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

World is too frickin' nuts lately...I'm gonna go for a long walk, again. Meantime here's a photo of a combination sun-dog and fire cloud that I took two days ago. Other than cropping, it's exactly as was taken at the time, no filters.

Gotta find sustenance wherever we can.

I love this so effin' much. Absolutely brilliant piece of writing, with the repeated 'remember' exhortation both pulling it all together, almost a call-and-response, and explicitly engaging the reader or listener.

The closing—"Remember this: Try"—still sends shivers down my spine.

Some days, I'm doing and feel okay and fine, generally contented even. Other days can feel like I'm holding myself together with duct tape, patch kits, random lengths of wire, and force of will. Or somewhere in between.

16-year-old Arnoldo Bazan and his father were getting McDonald’s before school when immigration agents pulled them over.

They slammed his father to the ground and put the teen in a chokehold. “I felt like I was going to pass out and die,” he said.

Among my strongest motives for surviving as a relatively recent widow is the list* I have of those I want to outlive and probably can.

* = Obviously does not and never did include my spouse, who had the same wish, but didn't make it, so I'll do it for us both.

You're looking here at a man who views violence (both domestic and not) against women for being "smug" and "uppity" and "disrespectful" and "disobedient" as entirely justified—up to and including being shot to death in the face.

Makes me want to throw up. I thought we were beyond this.

I'm sure it happens elsewhere, but New Mexico has this speciality where one day you can have a winter storm warning with reports of up to 6-12" above 7500ft*, and a severe thunderstorm warning the very next day.

* = I lucked out, just a few inches overnight, now gone due to today's rain.

I love that last term: "Memetic fascism."

So perfect, and aligns with my personal theory that via online interactions and social media, malignant ideas and false beliefs have become dangerously virulent.
"Maduro’s arrest is connected to a new kind of politics I’ve spent the last year struggling to describe. A profoundly embarrassing collision of violent nationalism, illiterate social chatter, and memetic fascism that’s been spreading across the globe since the pandemic."

This is why most regular consumer automatic bread and rice makers do not cook right where I currently live, also 'slow cookers' will boil their contents. Low air pressure = water boils at 198F/92C here.

I've had to find workarounds and adaptations.

For what it's worth, on the other side of the aisle so to speak, I almost never say no to this request unless (1) the person has been creepy/skeevy (I trust my instincts) or (2) I believe they'll confuse open friendliness for interest (a common encounter problem for many women).
Hey, #UglyDogs!

I'm grateful for you all.

Wishing you a peaceful, healthy New Year that amplifies all your victories and improves all the things you want to improve!

PS: There's a story I keep meaning to share with you. It's so simple and tiny in, but literally changed my life. Wanna hear it?

Sorry I seem out-of-sorts, because there's no 'seems' about it right now. Despite a number of positive events in my recent life, I'm still dealing with the grief of losing a spouse with whom I'd been together over 28 years (married about 18mo less than that).

Recent personal discovery: It's probably a testament to my compensatory and masking skills that I can score extraordinarily well on tests intended to detect ADHD-related cognitive deficits.

Not sure my mental health professional realizes this. She now thinks it's not a struggle at all. Oh well.
