I wasn’t expecting so much romance in a ghost story, but the spooky vibes and slow-burn feels totally won me over.

BOOK THOUGHTS Across the board, we agreed that The Black Phone proves how powerful a short story can be. Lindsey loved how Joe Hill managed to make it terrifying in just a few pages-the kind of story that lingers long after you finish. Crystal praised its eerie, urban-legend vibe and the way it captured that campfire-story unease, complete with psychic twists and ghostly messages. Keri, on the other hand, felt the short format limited its emotional depth. While the premise was strong and the paranormal MOVIE THOUGHTS -a rare adaptation that not only honors the source material but makes it even stronger. The film expands Joe Hill's short story in the best ways, giving Finney's sister a much more prominent role and amplifying her psychic abilities to create deeper emotional stakes. Ethan MOVIE THOUGHTS We all loved The Black Phone Hawke delivers a chilling, unforgettable performance, and the way the ghosts are portrayed, especially the haunting phone sequences, adds layers of fear and heartbreak that the short story could only hint at. It's terrifying, emotional, and brilliant-everything a great horror adaptation BOOK IS MOVIE Both versions of The Black Phone follow 13-year-old Finney, a boy trapped in a basement with nothing but a disconnected black phone and the voices of the killer's previous victims on the other end. The short story is tight, haunting, and straight to the point-a quick, chilling read that captures raw fear and tension in just a few pages. The movie adaptation expands the world and emotional depth, amplifying the supernatural elements. It's more terrifying, more personal, and turns a minimalist horror story into a full, heart-pounding experience. Both deliver their scares differently-one through quiet dread, the other through cinematic intensity-and together, they prove that sometimes the smallest stories make the biggest impact. FINAL VERDICT The consensus among all the hosts is clear-the movie comes out on top! With more time to explore the characters and their backstories, it delivers a more compelling experience. This movie was just too good to ignore!
