Goal for this year: striving for independence and not caving into peer pressure so much. For as long as I can remember, I've constantly disavowed my own interests and beliefs just to fit into whatever social group I randomly got myself into. Things I've once loved have now make me feel dirty (1/2)

So I watched Knights of Guinevere and tbh I have mixed feelings as the story has potential and the characters, while kinda basic, aren't terrible, but man do the visuals suffer in both design and movement, half the designs look like above average TOH rejects and the animation itself is very stilted

Remember when I said that this would be the only time I'd see anything Disney?

Well, when I learned that Thunderbean is partnering with MeTV to showcase their library of public domain shorts that they're restoring, look what I found in their home video shop.

I MIGHT take my words back.

Don't worry, American culture was also threatened by the ninja turtles based on nothing but "New is bad, old is good"
An ad with classic cartoon characters Fred Flintstone, Dennis the Menace, and Woody Woodpecker with the caption "Turtles Come And Turtles Go, But We Go On Forever"

redraw of THAT Felix artwork
A redraw of a Felix The Cat stock art that makes him look more like how he did in the silent era/early Messmer cartoons. (Original on the left)

Honestly the popularity of Tumblrcore cartoons in the 2010s is like 1 to 1 with the rise of "GRIM AND GRITTY" comics in the 90s and the negative influence THAT had. Both spat out more bad stories than good ones and the target audiences for both left in droves for foreign or web based alternatives.

Rest in peace, Drew Struzan. The poster of his that has always been a favorite of mine is one for DuckTales the Movie. If you have the comic adaptation from 1990, you can also see this poster without the lettering on the back cover (although it does have a UPC code in the corner).

Happy birthday to Robert McKimson. As one of the three mainstay directors at Warner Bros. Cartoons, he was there from the very beginning to the very end. He created Foghorn Leghorn, Taz, and Speedy Gonzales.

Just finished watching Clampett's cartoons from 1945/46 again. IMO, those were his best years, where he was on his A-game, pumping out all these shorts with high energy:

Draftee Daffy, Greusome Twosome, Bashful Buzzard, Book Revue, Baby Bottleneck, Kitty Kornered and The Great Piggy Bank Robbery.

Between Tiny Toons, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Animaniacs, etc., it was obvious almost immediately when something was animated by TMS. Like, it wasn't even close.

It was especially jarring with Animaniacs where you'd go from an episode/segment done by another studio, to the Wheel of Morality

god went looking for an example of TMS' work for Tiny Toons. doing crazy totally stunting on 'em animation shit for the most mid of mid around

I am throughly convinced that these people don't sincerely like SpongeBob, much like how a lot of Sonic fans don't actually like Sonic.

They only view him as a generic nostalgic icon that generates easy money for them, ironically making them no better than the corporation that they claim to hate.

Gonna be real with you: This RIGHT HERE is my biggest fear as a creative

The possibility that a group of "fans" of my work could so easily contort what I said and who I was after my death and use said made up persona of me to order to suit an agenda genuinely sends fucking chills down my spine.

I genuinely cannot understate how easy it is to just say: "Hey, I prefer this version of SpongeBob over the other" instead of spouting this contrarian bullshit. It's more than okay to have a preference, but you don't have to act like you knew the man personally to get your opinion across
