Labu-BOO! Remember that the scariest thing on the road tonight should be a child dressed as a pop culture reference you’re too old to understand.

Be extra cautious driving today, and keep an eye out for trick-or-treaters. Happy Halloween!

My husband's nickname for me, which he thinks of as my superpower and possibly my Halloween costume, is Supermodal. Today: Walk to bus stop. Take 2 Rapid Rides. Amtrak Cascades to Olympia. Car passenger home. Not the most modes I've ever used in one day, though. How many modes will you use today?

Just an incredible stat from @brooklynspoke.bsky.social:

In 1971, the Netherlands had a 20% higher vehicle death rate than the US

Today, their vehicle death rate is 60% lower than ours

Unnecessary early deaths are a policy choice
We were so excited to talk with @chrislhayes.bsky.social on his podcast "Why Is This Happening?" about our new book, "Life After Cars." We covered the politics of cars, the impact cars have on children, the planet and more. Give it a listen!

Given the Link light rail's rapid expansion, Seattle now has the fastest transit ridership growth of any major US metro area, beating out the continued recovery of DC
🍫 🍪 Amidst all that's bad, at least we still have International Chocolate Day. 🍫 🍪
It is! So great with some white cheddar on crackers, or on muffins or toast or.... just so good.

The primary reason for road wear is weight.

Modern cars weight much more. EVs are even heavier.

Other modes of transportation (e.g. bicycles), smaller cars and less sprawl (less roads to maintain) will fix those issues.
This wouldn't be such an unsustainable, recurring problem with fewer lane miles and more options in efficient, safe, affordable, and accessible transportation options for people in a city.
