Talking to Congressional staff is a great way for scientists to inform Congress about the impact of science in their state and the nation. We just had a superb meeting with Abigail Lancaster of NC Senator Budd's office. She was knowledgeable and emphasized their support for science funding 1/2

Sometimes I think about how from 1935-1975ish, Bell Labs produced an insane amount of revolutionary science and technology, including 11 Nobel Prizes, the transistor, UNIX, C, the laser, the solar cell, information theory, etc. The secret? Provide scientists with ample, steady, no-strings funding.

Interesting examples of authoritarian governments losing power to united opposition movements focused on positive messages.
Does anyone have book recommendations for more depth on these examples or others?
