Terrific movie. Really enjoyed it even though zombie movies aren't really my thing.
Finally arrived. Arguably the best ever series of Classic WHO.

Cinemas first zombie feature and screen debut of voodoo. A living dead landmark led by superbly satanic Lugosi. Dark and diabolically creepy. 1932.

There's a lot to like about this movie, but by all accounts Lugosi was woefully underpaid for his role. Just a year or so from his iconic Dracula, and with many good performances & movies to come, he's already taking roles to pay off his debts.
So all these years I thought I was being joked... and it was true?!😃
I believe that scene was included at the request of the Americans? I wish Hammer had the courage to stand up to them and say a decisive "NO!". One thing you might be able to help me on - was this movie ever shown on TV in Wales in Welsh? Someone told me that years ago, but I'm sure it was a leg-pull

Hammers fifth and arguably finest crack at creation. Superbly crafted grim gothic nihilism strikingly shot with the fantastic Cushing in cruel mode. 1969.

I wish I could like this more than I do. Cushing is as great as usual, but this crueller version of the character is an unpleasant change. The rape scene is extremely unnecessary, and I know Peter was very reluctant to film it. Not my favourite of the series.
That bit of brilliance has earned you a follow👍
This has now become a must-have in my life😃
This was the first Argento movie I ever saw, way back in the VHS days. I was very impressed with the style and atmosphere of it. It's a shame that Suzy Kendall retired later that decade, she had a lot to offer.

That would be a bold new look, Grunty. Could start a new fashion craze.
Today's bargain pick-up. Just a £1 for the latest take on this iconic detective. And I thought Bob Mitchum was too old for the role...
Blue is definitely your colour, Grunty. Maybe compliment your outfit with a pair of yellow marigolds?
Today's delivery. Mixed reviews for this prequel to the 'Alien' series. I've only seen the trailer which looks great.

Chaney Jr's dynamic horror debut and he's already falling foul of the fiendish Atwill. Terrific fun with thrilling effects. Next stop Lawrence Talbot. 1941.

Made on the lowest of low budgets, there's much to enjoy in this movie. Atwill is as reliable as usual, and Chaney makes a solid horror debut. That glow in the dark is still eerily effective.
It would have been very easy to make just another generic detective movie, but it's interesting when writers, director and actors try to bring something a little different to the genre. I'd like to have seen Depardieu reprise the role, but that's highly unlikely now.
Today's bargain pick-up. The bulky, shambling Depardieu makes a thoughtful Maigret as he investigates the murder of a young girl. This perfectly captures the Gallic atmosphere of the original novels.
Remember the incredible thrill of first buying a movie to watch at home - when you wanted, as often as you wanted?
I didn't know that. Studio execs, eh? What the hell do they know?!
I saw it 5 times on its original release, sadly each time to an almost empty cinema. Its popularity and reputation began just a few years later with the advent of VHS rental. I worked part-time at my local Blocbuster for a few months and believe me, it flew off the shelves.

Magnificent. Bill Lancasters screenplay leans closer to Campbells novella while Bottins astonishing effects help launch Carpenters film to classic. 1982.

From that haunting, minimalist electronic score at the beginning, to an ending that's been a subject of debate for over 40 years, this is a genuine classic. Maybe a little downbeat for the frothy early 80s? And a respectful tip of the hat to its later prequel.
