coming back to this but it's very funny that my tendency is to make my smaller/skinnier characters hairy and my larger/fatter characters smooth. I guess in part it's bc Aumeric has feathers instead and because body hair on au ra can feel visually busy and dissonant with scales.

I discussed this the other day, but he's also not especially large for a Horo of his social standing or even in comparison to his own father or older brothers. It took him genuine effort to achieve his appearance, even though outsiders would assume it's because of laziness or indolence.

He's big, and doesn't have nearly as much of an hourglass shape as an in-game male au ra. The big difference between him and Guin is that he has a lot more muscle under his fat, which makes him look bigger and much stronger... and that he's from a culture than expects him to be very large.

And Yabuqa... he's another case where my priorities and comfort levels depicting fat characters evolved considerably over the years. Unlike Aumeric, I consider a lot of my older art for him non-canon? Like he was only that skinny as a teenager if at all.

He's strong, but he has limits, and doesn't spend nearly as much time as he used to on combat or training.

Vespillo is probably my most, like... muscular/traditionally masculine in shape. Very tall, broad shoulders, narrower hips than Aumeric even though they both use an elezen model. He lost a good bit of muscle mass when recovering from his injuries and never got it all back.

I could write an entire essay about Aumeric's body type and metabolism and history and how connected it is to his character arc! He's absolutely someone for whom these changes reflect finding peace and happiness and comfort and belonging. But I do want to discuss everyone, too.

Aumeric started close to on-model, but I pretty quickly realized I enjoyed giving him thicker thighs. It's been a years-long evolution to draw him bigger as my comfort levels and priorities changed, and it should be noted that these changes were in-character and part of his development.
