Not quite ready for Xmas music, listening to spiritual music nonetheless. Mary Lou Williams - Live at The Cookery. A piano bass duo recorded in 1975 (beautiful piano tone throughout). Haven’t found a Williams album that I don’t love.

This makes me think of my old favourites which are weird but somehow great like Train 48 (an improvised soap opera set on the Go train I think) and Nothing Too Good For a Cowboy (about homesteaders and ne’er do wells if I remember). Hopefully the CBC Gem streaming era is a bit of cancon tv revival
I think if Canada wants to have a strong cultural identity we need to go back to doing what we're best at, making the weirdest fucking TV shows you've ever seen

Too five music genres:

Comeback albums with fried vocals
Weird instrumental guitar
Covers of Leonard Cohen songs
Records to DJ at a house party where everyone is smoking
New age piano from the 1980s
A weirdo from Ohio
A weirdo from Tennessee
Hang in there for the fuzz-guitar solo
New Orleans music
The VU friends and family
The Beach Boys
Top five music genres:

1. Harpsichord but it’s 1967 not 1767
2. Unaccompanied ballad about a false true lover
3. Songs where Bob Wills shouts out “Ah Ha! Play it sweet, (fill in blank)”
4. Theremin or musical saw solo. (Extra points for playing in tune)
5. It’s gonna be a lonely Christmas

Glad to see an article that reflects something that’s a reality for me and my family, never owning a car. Good to see the positive side of it here too. Would love more analysis about how more people could live without owning cars. More transit and better planning?

I’ve ended up trying to “master” the mixes I’ve got for my project so far. Using a little eq as I mix, and then using light compression and limiting on the final step has made something that sounds good to my ears, loud yet keeping the dynamics and feel of what I’ve mixed.
I know some sound inclined folks follow me here, any great ideas about mastering? I’m trying to read up on doing it myself with my DAW for my upcoming home recording project that’s in progress.

Why does the water smell and taste bad in parts of Halifax?
The smell and taste, which makes the water unpleasant but not unsafe, is caused by geosmin, which has been detected in the Pockwock supply
