Writer and artist in the UK. I write about history seriously and create fiction and art for fun. I’m a James Baldwin/Anne Carson/bell hooks/John Berger girlie. Read my fiction and buy me coffee at https://ko-fi.com/arielwrites

In the throes of a flu. Wide awake at 4 A.M. I think I wrote something yesterday, maybe even drew some sketches. I can't remember. Nothing is in my head apart from deadlines. Deactivated my X account again. Realised yet again that the more time I spend on social media, the more solitary I feel.

I’ve only just started reading #FMLComix, but I already have a feeling it will be one of my all-time favourites.

So what
If you find yourself crying
at 2 in the morning?
There will still be sunrise
Another day to spend in the world
Knowing you did not drown
in the shadows.

Almost 1 A.M. here and still thinking about how life can break you in so many ways, the unfairness of it all.

grieve is the name i give to myself.
i carve it into the bed frame.
i am make-believe.
this is an archive.
it hurts to be a story.

Yet joy still stays joy. Sequins stay sequins. Words still bespangle, bewilder.'

I hate how I'm so careful with money most of the time, and then I wake up at 4.30 in the morning and end up buying a £50 bacne spray that's not even for myself.😩

Yes! CDs and vinyls are actually becoming a thing here again.

I think I'll still be playing it today and alternate it with The Line Is a Curve.

White people deciding who is Black. White people deciding how brown people should identify. Non-Jews deciding who is Jewish.

Predatory capital cackling and cackling as inequality soars to extremes.

Nearly 6 decades on this planet, all this education, just to have my intelligence assaulted daily.

I just received the CD in the post today and have been listening to it most of the day. Sooo beautiful.

I needed to read this. Thank you for the reminder!

it just stops trying to find you.'

Thank you, Kae Tempest, for this beautiful, beautiful album.

A copy of Kae Tempest's CD zine, Self Titled, resting on the keyboard of a Macbook, the screen of which is showing the CD tracklist A spread from Kae Tempest's CD zine, Self Titled, containing a quote from 'Statue in the Square': 'You are not the sum of the things you do wrong in the eyes of someone who does not understand you.'

As a person with OCD who has to engage with the world and evaluate its most pressing issues on a regular basis, I am really struggling to cope these days. Back to therapy when I go home, I guess.

Only brought one physical book with me on this trip. I'll probably make up for it by buying a whole load while I'm here. Anyway, I like how the book colours match my Moleskine cahier.

Managed to retrieve this from my cupboard of childhood treasures. I love you, Jill Sobule. Thank you for the music and the stories.

Twenty-four days late seeing this! I am, thank you. I hope you are too and that the light continues to get in, in spite of everything.

Why am I writing about funerals on a sunny Sunday afternoon? 🥲

#AuthorSky
#AmWriting
Text excerpt: 'At some point, years from now, Spencer will realise that all the funerals he had been to have somehow blended into each other in his mind. What is a funeral, after all, but just some form of punctuation for the end of someone’s life? It’s the memories of that life that we hold onto, not the way we marked its end.'

Waking up to devastating news for British trans people facing a truly awful ruling from their Supreme Court. This follows a manufactured campaign of lies, panic, and ignorance based on a playbook now unfolding in the US. I know the fight continues, but my heart is with you today and always
