“At least seven people were detained by agents during the mid-morning raid, including Jacqueline Lopez and Elianne Bahena, Rodriguez’s chief of staff, who is an elected member of the Ogden (10th) District Police Council. Both are U.S. citizens, Rodriguez said.”

Lawless is the correct word rn.
Border Patrol Agents Detain 2 City Employees During ‘Lawless’ Little Village Raids, Ald. Rodriguez Says
“These federal agents are operating lawlessly, demonstrating utter disregard for our constitutional rights,” Ald. Mike Rodriguez (22nd Ward) said.

It’s great to see misguided mandates on public transit emissions go from a policy wonk topic, to getting real attention.

$$$ goes further getting more people on transit than switching to costly and unreliable battery-only buses.

Muni wants exemption from CA pollution rules. It's a no-brainer.
SFMTA plans to beg relief from the state's zero-emissions mandate. It’d be crazy not to ask. It’d be crazier for the state to say no.

"Democratic-led states should try to stem the bleeding. Make it easier to construct housing for the people who want to stay, who like where they are."

I agree – and consider transportation as well!
I say we should grapple more with the problem of bloated pickup trucks.

Part of the appeal is economic (taking advantage of huge unpriced externalities in terms of pollution and safety) and part is cultural (see petromasculinity)
"Part of the allure of the South as a cultural object... is not simply that things might be cheaper but that you have an opportunity... to dominate other people. You can have a big compound in the middle of Texas and drive a gigantic vehicle and use all the resources you’d like."
"There has emerged an almost generic national rural culture. It’s a certain kind of country music. It’s a certain kind of pickup truck. You see it if you go to rural NH, if you go to rural MT, if you go to rural IL. It’s very much rooted in a franchised version of a white Southern rurality."
Some 🔥 insights into transportation and housing in this conversation.

People moving to the South for cost-of-living – "on the West Coast and in the Northeast, the housing markets are calcified" and "the friction of trying to support a family life in some of those places" – and cultural reasons.
This is such a good conversation between @jamellebouie.net, @tressiemcphd.bsky.social, and @davidfrenchjag.bsky.social.

No kings. More trains.
So many people heading to the #NoKings protest in Chicago that it’s standing room only on the train. In fact, it’s so packed we can’t get on this one.
