Really though it's the naivete of the legislators. Never occurred to them that any administration would be so monstrous as to fight anyone who might want to charge SNAP recipients less. And that's on them. It's on monsters that they're monsters but it's always on the system to account for monsters.
What an amazingly clear example of the letter of a law being used contrary to its spirit. As if the SNAP Equal Treatment Rule was ever intended to stop people from charging SNAP recipients *more*.
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

Most conservative writers at liberal-read outlets do not publish columns with their actual opinions. They craft columns with the goal of influencing liberals to adopt beliefs and opinions that harm liberalism. Don't do that! Don't hire these guys to lie to your readers.
Deporting immigrants *does* run exactly counter to that goal. So their primary goal does indeed seem to be ethnic cleansing. But class warfare is a close second. And let's not forget that, if you're willing to pony up several million dollars, we'll let you in.
The simplest explanation for the cruelty, other than that it is the point, is to further serve the interests of corporations, by putting everyone in greater economic danger, so that people are more desperate for jobs, and will settle for lower wages.

Like, quantifiably the worst people.
Yet in 2010, Noem—then a congressional candidate—had “20 speeding tickets, three stop-sign violations, two seat-belt violations and a citation for driving with no driver’s license.” She had six court notices for failing to appear, and had two warrants out for her arrest. trib.al/uQSDaqR

Without the filibuster, the "revolving villain" shit vanishes. It becomes much harder to explain why they won't regulate businesses or do stuff like pass gun control.

The filibuster is a fig leaf, and without it both parties would be hard pressed to keep many incumbents in office.

Obvious to say this, but the actual function of the smear job isn't to make us ask about his aunt, it's to show us the words "hijab" and "9/11" in a headline with his photo.

I think any story about Trump's autocracy should be mostly about the people and institutions who failed to stop it. This guy isn't a political genius, everything else just happens to be rotten. 'Toddler Consolidates Power In Household' is a story about incompetent parents, not shrewd maneuvering
Agonizing about what to say into an unplugged microphone, is the way I characterize mainstream Democratic behavior.
It's so boringly simple. You're just watching a guy go, what do I want others to be saying to each other about this, and then he says it, and that's it. There's no deeper thought to it, and also no way to get him to say, or think, anything else, other than what he wants others to say and think.
Trump: "They cheated on a commercial. Ronald Reagan loved tariffs and they said he didn't. And I guess it was AI or something. They cheated badly. Canada got caught cheating on a commercial. Can you believe it?"

The fact it is effective and popular is exactly why the wealthy are so aggro about opposing it
"In the two years since the state started charging a 4% surtax on incomes over $1 million, the effort has created a $5.7 billion windfall, with the surplus being used to fund bridge repairs, bolster literacy programs and address the transportation system’s budget deficit."

I’ve been reposting all of the crowd videos of today’s NO KINGS rallies because at some point they’ll try to say it didn’t happen.

I think one of the biggest cleavages in our society that no one talks about is the division between those that think powerful people must be held to a higher standard than non-powerful people and those who think powerful people should be flattered and sucked up to.
