I feel like I wouldn't dislike Al as much if his character didn't retcon a lot of the stuff Elma did to make him look cool. It's implied through out the original story that Elma was the one who did a lot of the hero stuff and Al's presence in the story robs her of her implied achievements

Saw this with the pink phantom as well when it came out. Not to draw assumptions but I feel a lot of those "fans" got into them for the visual component and didn't expect to have to engage with music that occasionally challenges them. Weird given the band's approach from jump but still.

If anyone is worried I'm gonna suddenly leave the homestuck fandom, don't be. I want to end things with a bang and nothing you've seen from me so far even comes close to being a fitting ending. It's just something i need to consider since I'm rapidly approaching 30 💀

It's why I'm so much more interested in writing original soundtracks for projects like VE and Desynced. Even if we're doing similar stuff to homestuck musically, we have the room to break new ground if we want. Still the shadow of the original work colors expectations

One of the issues with fanmusic is that you really forgo developing your own creative voice in favor of emulating and remixing the same ideas ad infinitum. I've found my own ways to balance that out but I feel sometimes like I'm wasting my best ideas for a derivative work.

I've been in the fan music space for like 7 years and I've done a lot. I've achieved every musical goal I set for myself and then some. At that point you do have wonder what's left to do. It's not helped by the fact that a lot of the people I around me have moved on other things.

For a lot of reasons, I've been thinking about how I would want to end my time with homestuck.
