The Midwest Book Review, which is a huuuge review site for libraries and academic institutions, just reviewed the first three books of my series. And they loved them!

Since I'm writing a YA time-travel historical fiction series, complete with teenage heroes, evil villains, and lots of journeys into the past to fix glitches, my one-line pitch is "Harry Potter meets Quantum Leap"

#Writesky
For publishers, it was "Andy Weir's THE MARTIAN meets Naomi Alderman's THE POWER."

For readers, it's "When a time-travel mishap strands an anthropologist in a matriarchal world, he’s forced to decide who he can trust, and how far he’s willing – or able – to adapt to survive."
Time to eat your vegetables again y'all! What's a one-sentence elevator pitch for your book? If you need help, [thing] meets [thing] is a great baseline. #WritingPrompt

I say this as someone who works for an AI company, and has witnessed first-hand the degradation of thinking and creative ability as people use AI tools to do all the thinking/creation for them:

I totally agree.
I say this as someone whose entire job is finding the narrow use cases in which AI is actually useful:

All the fear about AI, all the reluctance to adopt it, is entirely legitimate, and a product of the fact that it's been foisted on the public with no consideration of its negative externalities.
I continue to have no sympathy left for whinging about how the public are rude about AI and feel threatened by it when the biggest players in the AI space have spent years very vocally and constantly *threatening the public*

All of my historical characters have names pulled from written historical records. But for book two, which took place in Celtic Wales, I had a hard time since the Celts left little written information. I ended up pulling names from a registry of Celtic gravestones in England.

Went to see Ensiferum & Blind Guardian on Saturday. What a great show! And Ensiferum even posed with me for a picture after! This is the second time I've seen them this year.
Great band to watch live.

Twas the night before Hastings, and all through the camp,
Not an Anglo-Saxon was sleeping, but not from the damp.
The Normans were close, with Duke William at their head.
And by tomorrow William or King Harold would be dead.

1/ Normally I don't read books for early readers (especially ones with pink fluffy clouds on them) but when @authormjpankey.bsky.social asked if I would like an ARC of The River of Truth, I just had to say yes. I knew that I would be in for a great story, pulling from the depths of Greek mythology.

The snow is starting up today. We're supposed to get up to 30cm in my area. Good thing my two sons, who are in their 20s, both still live at home. "Get shovelling, boys!"

I'm strictkly a physical book reader. My day job is in computers, so I'm staring at screens all day long. When I read, I want paper, peferably paperback (because hardcovers can get expensive).

She snapped the book shut [...]. “At least I read. All you ever talk about is movies. What’s the last book you read?”
I raised my hands defensively. “I never said there’s anything wrong with cheesy romance novels. I’m sure they make great toilet paper.”

Just spent over two hours in an online queue waiting for my chance to buy World Cup tickets to a match in Toronto. After all that waiting, after all those expectations, tickets were sold out.

That's how my week is starting.
Hopefully no one is having a worse start.

I am now up to 5 spam emails a day from:
- phony book clubs wanting to feature me
- phony authors wanting to connect
- marketing "experts" wanting to help me sell

My big question is: At what level of spam do I consider myself a successful author?

Time is always flying for my MCs, but in the wrong sense. It seems that they rarely have a chance to recover from their last near-death escapade before another one is upon them.

"Allow me to introduce myself. I am Victor Stahl." He brushes a speck of lint off the sleeve of his impecabbly tailored suit. "And I am no villain. When the people of the world finally comprehend my plan they will call me hero, leader, and perhaps even . . . saviour?"

I'm not sure what my MMC's fursona would be, but my FMC is definitely a large jungle cat, either a panther or a tiger. Even my MMC regularly says that she walks in the forest like a tiger stalking her prey.

Tell us your Main Character's fursona/what animal they would be.

Is your character already an animal? What human job would they have?

I once had my son, who has a degree in mathematics, calculate for me the maximum amount of arrows that someone could launch directly into the air before the first one fell. We had to base this on a sixty pound bow with the arrows going straight up.

Fun fact about me:

I've was once kicked out of Italy. (And the story of this tale became my first ever piece of paid writing.)

Corporate-style icebreaker jump scare 😱: tell us a fun fact about you, the author!

This is meant to be fun, so if "fun facts" make you cringe, feel free to adjust this prompt. You could do two truths and a lie, or just give us a non-personal fun fact that brings you joy.

There is a thin layer of snow covering everything today. Come on Weather Gods--it's only early November! I'm pretty sure the rules state that there is no snow until December.

I've had a pretty busy summer, so I haven't had a chance to properly promote The Spartan Sacrifice. But on November 15th I'll be at Indigo Oshawa signing copies of all my books.

I hope to see you there--they make great Christmas presents for the history fan in your life!
