#HistBookChat for this week. One is the follow-up to last week's offering but this time the onus leans more towards unknown shipwrecks (the clue is in the name!) whilst the other centres around the human face of armoured warfare in NW Europe. It's not the best account you'll read but still good.

Late as usual (or early) for #HistBookChat and a break with the usual. First published in 1970, many of the wrecks listed were listed as 'Unknown' but over the years, many have been identified as seabed obstructions (rocks and the like) but many more are still just that, unknown.

#HistBookChat second offering of the week and one which I've bumped up to the top of the TBR pile

Late again with my #HistBookChat offering. The last two chapters in which the old soldiers reflected on their experiences left me especially moved in a way I haven't felt for a while. Not every soldier was scarred by their experiences but all were marked by it in some way.

Absolutely.
Everytime they speak against Antifa reporters need to say “let’s be clear, you’re pro facism, right?”

Three offerings for this week's #HistBookChat - The Hastings book is probably the last one he's done of late worth the reading (although a friend says his work on Operation Pedestal is good). November 1942 I'd categorise as a good book if bought second hand but the very best of the 3 is HMAS Sydney.

Sorting through some books and found this which I can thoroughly recommend...#HistBookChat The author actually visited DBP a number of times and was played by Donald Pleasence in
Pierre Schoendoerffer's film of the same name (which I also recommend).

By way of a #HistBookChat bonus, I offer this as proof that I do read books that aren't military related. I can't recommend this volume highly enough, it really puts the reader in the thick of events.

I was sorting through a pile of books when I came across this magazine from 1988, containing my first paid for article. 1988! #OldGit Still, it was a subject I returned to years later and hopefully will again. #HistBookChat #DienBienPhu #FrenchIndochina

#HistBookChat offerings for this week..... I've not read Keegan's The Price of Admiralty yet, but his Six Armies in Normandy is a classic study of the campaign. One book on the subject I have no hesitation in recommending (apart from my own - obviously!) is After D-Day by James J Carafano.

Irony isn't Trumpington, the FTOTUS (First Traitor Of The United States) thing is it? To use an AI image of him in military uniform is one thing but an image based on a Vietnam War theme? C'mon Capt. Bone-Spur, didn't your family pay a doctor to say you weren't fit to serve there? Shameless.
The president of the United States just declared war, actual military war, not a metaphorical one, on a major American city, and one governed by his political opponents.
In any other period, this would be impeachment-worthy.

A sea turtle surfacing by a MASSIVE school of rays near Clearwater, Florida a couple days ago. Another post into the BluSky void. Maybe 2 or 3 people will see this one and my time won't have been wasted. I'll keep trying a little longer. #nature #animals #amazing #wildlife #awesome #ocean

#histbookchat experts, I would like to pick your collective brains: I have an idea for a follow up to Caen, Cobra and Confusion, published by @barnthorn.bsky.social this year. The only issue is I can't work AND research & write at the same time unless I was aiming for a submission date...1/2 (or 3)

#histbookchat 2/2 The Invisible Campaign is very good indeed, thoroughly recommended. I returned to 'From Victory to Stalemate' to see if I'd been too harsh in my initial appreciation...no, no I hadn't been. Struggle For Europe is a classic account, a little dated maybe but still worth a read.

Apologies for the gap between posts, I just got caught up in 'stuff', you know how it is I'm sure. Glad to see my fellow historians have still been keeping the flag waving flying though. So, withut further ado, 3 offerings for #histbookchat 1/2
