Has anyone ever come across any *primary source* material that confirms that SS soldiers had to break the necks of German Shepherd dogs they had raised & trained with for 12 weeks in order to earn their stripes? It sounds like nonsense to me for various reasons.

For people who say ‘having horses in the military still is cruel’ - let it be known that many horse owners would not opt to have surgery on their horses after an accident and give them a wonderful retirement like this.
