#HistBookChat for this week. One is the follow-up to last week's offering but this time the onus leans more towards unknown shipwrecks (the clue is in the name!) whilst the other centres around the human face of armoured warfare in NW Europe. It's not the best account you'll read but still good.

Late as usual (or early) for #HistBookChat and a break with the usual. First published in 1970, many of the wrecks listed were listed as 'Unknown' but over the years, many have been identified as seabed obstructions (rocks and the like) but many more are still just that, unknown.

Late again with my #HistBookChat offering. The last two chapters in which the old soldiers reflected on their experiences left me especially moved in a way I haven't felt for a while. Not every soldier was scarred by their experiences but all were marked by it in some way.

Thank you mate. I've got a couple of other ideas to follow on from CC&C, the front runner would focus on Falaise and The Great Swan, but I just don't have the £ and time.

I know the feeling, this one was supposed to be the first of a trilogy but things got in the way. Perhaps one day....

Three offerings for this week's #HistBookChat - The Hastings book is probably the last one he's done of late worth the reading (although a friend says his work on Operation Pedestal is good). November 1942 I'd categorise as a good book if bought second hand but the very best of the 3 is HMAS Sydney.

Sorting through some books and found this which I can thoroughly recommend...#HistBookChat The author actually visited DBP a number of times and was played by Donald Pleasence in
Pierre Schoendoerffer's film of the same name (which I also recommend).

By way of a #HistBookChat bonus, I offer this as proof that I do read books that aren't military related. I can't recommend this volume highly enough, it really puts the reader in the thick of events.

I was sorting through a pile of books when I came across this magazine from 1988, containing my first paid for article. 1988! #OldGit Still, it was a subject I returned to years later and hopefully will again. #HistBookChat #DienBienPhu #FrenchIndochina

#HistBookChat offerings for this week..... I've not read Keegan's The Price of Admiralty yet, but his Six Armies in Normandy is a classic study of the campaign. One book on the subject I have no hesitation in recommending (apart from my own - obviously!) is After D-Day by James J Carafano.

Apologies for the gap between posts, I just got caught up in 'stuff', you know how it is I'm sure. Glad to see my fellow historians have still been keeping the flag waving flying though. So, withut further ado, 3 offerings for #histbookchat 1/2

Do you know, I don't know?! I didn't realise until now that Galago Books had gone out of business so I'm not sure where that leaves me and the rights to my work.

Greyhound, Hoa Binh area 1951. I wouldn't have said it was particularly suited to a theatre where metalled roads were in short supply.
