I love that this is the song from Fievel: An American Tail

I'm sure I messed up the details somehow, you're probably right! 😂

We’re BACK BABY.

At Bad Art for Good, we’re gonna get together and make some art to make things better.

How can art make things better? Creating makes us feel good! Art moves people! And we need a LOT of people to move right now!

A possum in a beret with a paintbrush screams in front of a canvas with a possum in a pile of leaves. The words say bad art for good an art + community event and the possum is saying “make the world better with art!” And free beer snacks and art supplies, and Indy hall November 10th 6:30

I heard when this happened, gay bars would sell a drink they called an Anita Bryant. It was a modified screwdriver: ordering an Anita Bryant got you a plain, nonalcoholic glass of orange juice with the proceeds of the drink donated to an LGBT charity!

I am absolutely being a downer on main and will probably lose a few more followers.

But I genuinely don't know what's left to do. I'm so tired. So, so tired, and tired of being ignored or thrown away, and we do not have to be here. This was all preventable.
andalitebandit.bsky.social
Yes, I'm angry and very bitter. This has never been abstract to me. I've got nothing left to give and at a certain point, if my country is determined that I'm an enemy for trying to prevent it from being its worst self, I have to ask why I'm trying to fix something that doesn't want to be better.
andalitebandit.bsky.social
We do not have to be here. All of this was preventable.

If I couldn't rely on you to do the bare minimum, if you ignored or scorned the warnings for years, why would I put my fate in your hands? You have us fighting on the hardest setting and I'm already spent from trying to persuade you.
andalitebandit.bsky.social
My thing is, some of us put up long, hard fights *for years* trying to keep things from getting to this point. The people now telling us to unite in solidarity with them didn't listen, didn't act, didn't make plans and contingencies, didn't learn, and some of us were spent *before Inauguration Day*.

You can't logic your way out of being burnt out. Unless you're me. Who should be able to do it and it's a personal failing that I can't

In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand

I'll go first: Six page commercial lease.

I'll grab you the link. The historian is Baylis C Brooks and he found a paper trail from the parrish records in Jamaica of a family of Thatches from Bristol with a father and son both named Edward, the younger of which was going to inherit the plantation, but gave it up and joined the Navy instead!

This was going to be my serious answer! 😉 📻 📺

Guglielmo Marconi

Without him there is no wireless anything

Give that ten seconds thought and realise how very, very different your life would be then. No radio. No television. No cell phone. No wireless internet. No wireless MOUSE. The world would be simply unrecognisable.

Your celebrity gossip is about who Taylor Swift is feuding with this week.

Mine is about how a historian thinks he figured out the historical Blackbeard's real identity and it's that he was a sugar planter from Jamaica, hinting why he and Stede Bonnet might have hit it off.

We are not the same.

But I've been lamenting how we used to hold up a healthier, pro-social masculinity vs the type being idealized now. It's no longer Atticus Finch or a Lone Ranger who protects and defends a community. Now it's abusive "alpha males" or juvenile man-babies.
andalitebandit.bsky.social
This. This right here. Probably because so much of the current manosphere-to-alt-right pipeline was engineered by Steve Bannon to funnel teenage boys playing videogames from Gamergate and incel forums into the Proud Boys and DOGE employees.

I do think it's underdiscussed just how much climate denial today is performative white masculinity

a lot of people want to read Trump and team's fossil fuel obsession as being about *money* but while there is of course a corruption element, it's primarily pure culture war stuff. even many of the big fossil fuel companies want to get into renewables because it's so obviously the future.

Coal production and employment in Wyoming has steadily been declining, much like the rest of the industry in the US.

Coal is a dead industry.

If the goal is to teach them that unbridled experimenting with emergent technology by rich egoists accountable to no one is a recipe for wide-spread disaster, it's sure a prescient reading assignment!
andalitebandit.bsky.social
I work in a bookstore and a bunch of high schoolers have been coming in to buy the book for their assigned reading. A co-worker and I were speculating on why that's being assigned! 😂

Seriously, I had to get out because it was really affecting my faith in other people and making me spiritually sick. It was hard for me to believe people are really like this. But they were born stupid just like the good Lord intended, and God willing, they'll be even stupider when they die! 🙄
andalitebandit.bsky.social
I just got out of the area of SC mentioned in the article. People were so hostile to me for continuing to mask, it was bizarre. I cannot overstate that these are people who are extremely proud of their stupidity and deeply offended by being reminded that they live in a world with other people.
