Having just finished reading it (& on to another cuppa tea) - I thoroughly recommend this book, if you’re interested in the last 50 years of activism for Māori self-determination.

It’s beautifully written, & includes many images of Tāme’s artworks & performances.

Good thread on ‘Māori leadership’, which also begs the reminder that Parliament is not the only decision-making body of note, & that we all have more agency than we admit, we just need to recognise it.

Agree with Sacha below. Māni is always offering a masterclass. One caveat, though, and this is absolutely not for Māni or Mihi or the other journalists skilled in Te Ao Māori me Te Ao Pākeha politics.

We needed James Shaw, & his clear-sighted advocacy for climate action, during the 8 years he was an MP, & then Minister for Climate Change. Heaps of progress.

Then we got this 🤡
My hope is that a 1-term government can’t unravel all the completed work.

New: Climate Change Minister Simon Watts concedes the Government’s new methane target could result in outcomes not consistent with limiting global warming to 1.5C above preindustrial levels – a threshold mandated in New Zealand and international law.

More waves crashing on the sandcastles of hopium. I'm famously pessimistic, but the data continues to surprise me to the downside. It's relentless. We've not seen anything like this for 45 years. Compounding, mutually reinforcing, job-killing dynamics. (1/2)

Dumb & dumber don’t seem to realise how all these pesky regulations work.

I once had a friend who worked in Min Health, & was privy to health inspection data for food service biz. She had a blacklist of places she wouldn’t eat in, due to vermin reports.

But also the whole thread leading up to this summary.

tl/dr: evil actors that do widespread harm like genocide are able to do so because we believe they can, and we allow them to do so. We can act to change that, but only if we believe it is possible.

18 years on, never forgotten.

An older woman wearing a black T-shirt with the words ‘State terrorists kidnapped my friends’ printed on it.

This refers to the 2007 Urewera Raids, which ultimately led to NZ Police being censured by the Attorney General and others.

I mean, one name really stuck out, as being likely to show every ‘entitlement’ trait possible 😏

I did snigger.

I still know a few of those who got elected, despite moving away in 2013. Welli is such a small world…

Would that be Tony’s sister?

My kids went to school with Tony’s, a good couple of decades ago now…

It’s tradition that when you see the frogs, you show them respect 🫡

I am old, tired and jaded. I gave up my place to those younger and better equipped, I told myself.

So why did I just buy an inflatable frog costume?
