#paleoctober2025 day 15 : Plectronoceras !

Cephalopods were late bloomers compared to other major mollusk classes, only becoming really abundant during the Ordovician. Plectronoceras here is the oldest cephalopod, dating back to the Cambrian, and its anatomy has been much debated.

Jour 15 (la moitié !) du #Arachtober avec cette argiope frelon qui porte bien son nom vernaculaire. Cette grande épeire a aussi une toile remarquable, avec la présence d'un stabilimentum en son centre, une structure dont le rôle est encore discuté.

Pour le #Arachtober du jour on ne s'éloigne pas beaucoup de la thomise d'hier, avec ce philodrome (Philodromus sp) qui se fond aussi à merveille dans son environnement.

#paleoctober2025 day 14 : Allenypterus montanus !

Coelacanths have a really rich evolutionnary history, with numerous freshwater species during the paleozoic, our two current species being relics. Allenypterus is known from the Carboniferous of Bear Gulch (Montana) from various specimens.

Je l'avais appris au lycée je crois et rabâché jsp combien de fois à la fac, j'adore à quel point c'est vraiment juste des variations de proportions sur une même plante à chaque fois, limite encore plus parlant que les chiens pour les variations dans les espèces domestiquées

Vous pouvez pas etre "centriste" dans un débat avec un fasciste eb disant "je prends 50% du racisme, c est un compromis". Vous pouvez pas etre à moitié pour les droits humains, à moitié anti raciste. You'd think it's a stick bug, but no : It's a grasshopper. Proscopiids are really long and thin grasshoppers, and this one from the Crato Formation (120/115 Ma) may be the oldest to date.

Fini le week-end, on reprend le #Arachtober ! Pour ce lundi cette jolie thomise enflée à peine visible sur sa fleur. Pratique pour duper des proies parfois aussi (voire plus) grosses qu'elle.

Photographie d'une thomise enflée toute blanche sur des fleurs toutes blanches également. L'araignée se distingue à peine. La proie qu'elle tient avec ses pattes avant, une abeille, est plus grosse qu'elle.
