Voting is fundamental to a functioning democracy.

States have ultimate authority for running elections.

The question is, if the government chooses who votes, are we still a government of the people?

To help us spread the lessons needed in a democracy, check us out!
People think Darth Vader is cool.

But they don't like imperialist rule.

That's why we have checks and balances.
Trump: "We have Darth Vader. You know Darth Vader, right? Darth Vader is a man who is sitting -- is that Darth? Stand up please. Does everybody know -- they call him Darth Vader, I call him a fine man. But he's cutting Democrat priorities and they're never gonna get them back."
Adults are unaware of the rights which come with their responsibilities, and unaware of how government affects their lives.

No other non-profit is bringing their lessons to their screens!

We cannot get unact8ve voters to suddenly participate, but introducing civic concepts is the 1st step.

Thank you for your appearance on @stephaniemiller.bsky.social today!

You are exactly right! The civic anemia in our society is at the base of many issues in our society.

Am Civics Snapshots was formed to foster long-term civic recovery. Check us out!
1 candidate or candidate's party, but there are mathematical ways to measure gerrymandering.

Comparing the area of a district to the length of its borders is one way.

If gerrymandered it may take your vote, & 3 other voters' votes just to make up for a border drawn to include 4 opposing voters.
Gerrymandering is a process where district maps are drawn in a way to either group or separate areas which are likely to vote for a legislative candidate. This can be either for state or federal levels of government.

It's not random, there are ways to measure whether a district is drawn to favor
This is an excellent example of legislative oversight. A function of checks & balances

A legislator investigating potential corruption and agency activities which could be subject to potential new laws which would force action by an agency.

Thank you @wyden.senate.gov
New developments in my 3 year Epstein investigation, this time regarding JP Morgan Chase and its CEO, Jamie Dimon. This is a long thread, but worth sticking around for.
2635.101 Basic obligation of public service.

(a) Public service is a public trust. Each employee has a responsibility to the United States Government and its citizens to place loyalty to the Constitution, laws, and ethical principles above private gain.
From the Justice Manual:

1-4.010 - Introduction

Government ethics rules implement this common value: public service is a public trust, meaning that the decisions and actions that federal employees take must be made in the best interests of the American people. See 5 C.F.R. § 2635.101.
It was designed to prevent the president from refusing to spend funds that Congress had appropriated. It requires the president to notify Congress if funds are being withheld, & a permanent recission must be approved by Congress.

This is a check on the president from creating his own government
While the Constitution can sometimes be open to interpretation, Congress can pass a law to clarify any vague process within it.

So Congress, signed by a president passed The Impoundment Control Act: Passed in 1974, cancelation of funds requires congressional approval.
Just go ahead and delete article 1 entirely while you’re at it.
Well that's not how appropriations work at all

*WHITE HOUSE TO TRANSFER TARIFF REVENUE TO FUND WIC: LEAVITT
It was a response to colonial legislators being prosecuted for their actions against the crown.

The Supreme Court has said the clause must be interpreted broadly to protect legislative independence.
The Speech & Debate Clause

"They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses,... & for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place."
It's important to note that not only do millions rely on non-profits, but there are another couple of million Americans who are employed by non-profits.

If the government picks winners in the non-profit sector that's also going to drive up unemployment and drive down wages.
@msignorile.bsky.social

Thank you for your interview last hour.

We are a new non-profit run by a fed employee displaced this spring.

It's been a tough road to get off the ground even focused on non-partisan civics education. We're getting questions about running afoul of this administration.
How are they defining "criminal conviction"?

Because civil court judgements,, traffic violations, and misdemeanor convictions could technically be convictions, but certainly not what most people think when they say criminal convictions.
There is a federal principle that states should not be able to undermine federal policy using targeted criminal prosecutions, a doctrine known as Supremacy Clause Immunity.

Because of the Supremacy Clause, federal power is over state laws and constitutions. This is an extension of that.
Serious question: What's stopping the State of Illinois from arresting Stephen Miller & charging him with incitement?

The Senate didn't confirm him. He's just a guy.

At some point, the states MUST use their authority to prosecute, because the federal government certainly will not.
We’ve been reaching out to various funders.

The 1st Amendment has 5 rights within it.

One of those is Freedom of Assembly. Which prohibits government interference in free association among people.
By the way, that's not the only big news in Abortion, Every Day:

If Oklahoma healthcare providers want to keep their Medicaid funding, they'll have to sign what amounts to an anti-abortion loyalty pledge—promising they won't even refer patients for abortions, or affiliate with pro-choice groups
Government can change our lives in many ways!

In 1752 the government of the British Empire along with the American Colonies told everyone to skip Sept 3 to Sept 13.

And people today complain about daylight savings time!
The Constitution is the plan. Congress needs to provide a clear road map to fulfill that plan.

As long as there a loopholes someone, will use them to take away the power from the people.

Super majorities for all nominations are important for getting the 3rd branch away from partisan decisions
There a lot of scenes in that which I would categorize as horror. But it's pretty good.
The 1st Amendment has appeared to be on the ropes lately, but this is a great win for the press.

We need to tell people how important the press is in a democracy. From Bloggers to national news outlets.

An informed voter is the best voter!
Voting is important, there are more ways to have your voice heard.

1. Take action! Attend protests, donate time to a cause, or talk to your friends about important issues.

2. Join a political party in your county

3. Find an organization that agrees with your views

But always vote!
Today, we remember the loses & heroes of 9/11. We are contemplate unity, resilience, & civic responsibility.

ACS believes that understanding our society is crucial for fostering a strong democracy.

Join us in promoting civics education. Together, we can build a more informed & united society.
