SCIENCE RELIGION AND THE HUMAN FUTURE (Oxford UP) available Jan 16! So grateful to fabulous co-authors Charlotte Sleigh & David Wilkinson who stepped up after the dreadful loss of Tom McLeish (plus new jobs for other authors): book would not be here without them! @eclasproject.bsky.social

Ta! Charlotte found it (what would I do without that woman!!) - Tom had a special feeling for the book of Job and its engagement with science.

Heads up for this excellent special issue of BJHS edited by @actgeppert.bsky.social . Insightful contributions on the cultural construction of 'founding fathers,' 'prophets,' etc. of the space age, taking a very global approach w/ works on Clarke, Sarabhai, Qian Xuesen, etc. I have a small epilogue.

#IsaacAsimov's 'Sally' (1953) - about a retirement farm for autonomous cars with positronic brains. Unusual in that the Three Laws do not apply

Suddenly mad that we'll never get a Discworld book in which the wizards invent something like Large Language Monsters that eat everyone's stuff before regurgitating it, and Vimes arrests them all for being bloody stupid

With the world turning away from diversity we need public anthropology more than ever. I’ve decided to do my bit to share what we know about cultures of reproduction & why they matter for human evolution. PEOPLE LIKE US coming in 2027 🙏🏻 @zcosini.bsky.social

Now I'll redo it on BlueSky, this time with more images of our archival sources: 🗃️ #HistSci #EarlyModern

The Music Instinct is about why we make and love music, how our brains make sense of it, how composers and performers engage the emotions, and why music is IMO one of the most profound products of the human mind.

One of our ongoing research projects is #StoriesOfScienceAndFaith, vignettes from history which show how science and Christianity can work together.

Today we launch our new Advent series, six stories which offer a fresh perspective in the lead up to Christmas.
