A quick look and at least three of the members — including Saudi Arabia’s neighbor Qatar — were not even in place to participate in the “vote” for the World Cups. The man from Slovenia appeared to have dialled in from his car. These are the people that decide things in football.

Very hard not to feel intensely pessimistic today. Having grown up in the eras of Havelange and Blatter, if you'd told me back then that, in 2024, international football would be in an even worse state - even more corrupt - I wouldn't have believed you.

Very hard not to feel intensely pessimistic today. Having grown up in the eras of Havelange and Blatter, if you'd told me back then that, in 2024, international football would be in an even worse state - even more corrupt - I wouldn't have believed you.
