I never met him though I saw him once in Norwich market during the 1997 election supporting Charles Clarke. He's a heroic figure to my mind a brave, decent man and a staggering orator. Probably the last of the breed.

Ian McEwan should have stuck to short stories. First chapter of Enduring Love, Child in Time etc excellent, the rest of the book meh. (I will make an honourable exception for Atonement)

it may not be a crime, but as the Swedish have found it is hugely problematic. This is so irresponsible and demonstrates neatly why Jenrick should never be anywhere near power

He will have a great legacy actually including the relisting of listed buildings in 1980 following the Firestone scandal. Proper old school Tory - you may not vote for them but they weren't just destroyers.

Just seen Badenoch's statement that all Tory candidates will need to sign up to leaving ECHR at the next election. Now surely there are a sizeable number of centrist Tory PMs facing a LD threat in that election that will simply decide to defect to LD on that basis. Isn't this a huge risk?
