So, they, as in the govt.:

1. Arrested the uni student who petitioned for independent investigation to the fire, accountability, re-eavaluation of safety guidelines, & continue support for the residents

2. Are still expecting the victims to pay off their mortgage...

I mean, if you're looking at the impressive and heartwarming grassroots initiatives to help fire victims and your first thought is, "But what if they're secretly organising a colour revolution?!" then you're showing where your priorities lie – and it's not with the ppl who need help. 2/5

I note with interest that it only took them a little over two days to deem public criticism of a horrific and senseless tragedy as cover for national security threats.
The Office of Safeguarding National Security said it firmly supports strict action against people “using the [Tai Po] disaster to create chaos in Hong Kong” and “resolutely punishing activities that endanger national security,” comparing it to attempts to revive the 2019 unrest

The kind of evil of the government to hamper community disaster relief efforts, they're punishing the Hong Kong people for having ever dared to organize.
I have also spoken to a journalist that lives in the neighborhood and he has confirmed that the government "care teams" have started taking over relief centers, kicking out volunteers and taking over supplies donated by the general public.

Hong kongers: doing good things, ralling around victims, setting up support.

HKSARG: takes over, confiscated supplies and takes the names of the volunteer groups in what seems like intimidation.

SMH. Guess HKSARG sees any community organisation is a threat.

International media, you can do better than this.

"Bamboo" is maybe exotic and a compelling hook but it is too easy. The real story here is the growing culture of corruption, including a lack of accountability and oversight, that enabled a chain of human errors that led to this disaster.

Painting of Tai Po's Tolo Harbor from last time I was back. With all my heart I wish for peace and justice to the victims of the fire. My hometown and my people ❤️

I was in Hong Kong very briefly a few weeks ago and spent an afternoon in Tai Po. It's a great place. Like any Hong Kong urban centre, it has its share of high rises. But also green spaces, two rivers running through it, a great market and a harbour. RIP and justice for the victims.

Momma Lyla is back at my house for some last ditch effort at socializing, so she doesn't have to be adopted out as a working cat. She's now also my first rodeo at fostering an adult fearful-shy cat too.

Again, turkeys are 70-80% off from today onwards and last a year in the freezer.

If you’ve got a chest freezer in the garage that’s good soup, stew, and smoker meat for the whole winter for a really good price.

Folks often forget the fight for democracy in HK isn’t a “Beijing vs us” thing in matters of human rights - I mean that matters too - but also the fight for local representation so that problems like these don’t get swept under the rug
This 2024 post from the DAB’s Peggy Wong is quickly becoming infamous.

In it, the pro-Beijing district councillor dismisses fire safety concerns about the Wang Fuk work as malicious rumours misleading the public, and accuses the Democratic Party of “provocatively live-streaming “ from the scene.

"content creators" too, like those on tiktok, are guilty of this. if only bid rigging, corrupt councilor (from a "patriots"-only election) and a government that doesn't care are as catchy & easy to make content out of
Hoping Western journalists stop jumping on the bandwagon of blaming the bamboo scaffolding and completely glossing over the negligence of the building developer that the residents themselves have been complaining about. (but you know how it is)
