Gonna 🧵 some insights from this data portal as i take lil work breaks

1/ Low density residential zoning might be bad for our local economy?

Maps show inventory of various building types, overlayed with Residential Low zones. Big swaths of Alx have no commercial uses, or nearby (hello 🚗 traffic)

Every year our CEO asks for a list of wins from the year & every year I, being a supreme grump, roll my eyes.

Then I comply, list my team's wins, & get really proud of the work we've done to roast a few marshmallows on the year's blazing dumpster fire

Turns out she's an effective manager of grumps

In the midst of thanksgiving i missed our local opinion section which this week featured:
- a letter supporting 🧊
- oh look another pro 🧊 letter
- a baffling column about failing up via family wealth, firing seniors, and objectifying your event co-chair (but don't worry everyone laughed! /s)

I don’t think you understand how hard it is to explain to two very uninterested kids how important it is for mom and dad to see Long Island’s own Busta Rhymes perform with the Ninja Turtles at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Relative to peer jurisdictions, I think Arlington County, VA is quite well-governed. However, the county has an advisory panel going to consider big changes to our governance, including a ❗ move from at-large to district-based representation❗

I regret to inform you that this was not a cinematic masterpiece.

Everyone wearing *brand new* bills gear in every scene was deeply uncanny. Where is your 1992 AFC Champions sweatshirt with the tailgate mustard stain you couldn't get out?!

The other day L asked what I was reading and you’d think I’d know better than to tell her after The Great Odyssey Obsession of 2024

Anyway now she’s demanding installments of Dracula (edited for kids) as a bed time story 🧛🏻‍♂️

Remember this? Well we got another example of how feedback method changes the outcome

At an in-person meeting, the local Civic Association voted pretty overwhelmingly to oppose bike lanes on Braddock Road bc they'd remove parking

bsky.app/profile/alex...
This is such a good example of how different types of input give you different impressions:

- one in-person speaker

- a majority of written comments opposed

- 87% of 1,842 survey respondents supported making the closure permanent, with 12 of 16 businesses on the block backing the proposal
