After our picture description, we will have tonight’s story.

Our photograph depicts an enchanting, almost surreal forest bathed in hues of violet, indigo, and gold.

Tall trees with moss-covered trunks stretch upward, their bare branches weaving like skeletal fingers across the frame.

The forest floor is blanketed in a glowing carpet of purples and greens, with patches of golden moss and ferns catching faint light.

The picture is in colour and is finished off with a white border frame.

And now our story for tonight…

I call it…The Witch of the Lavender Forest

No traveler entered the Lavender Forest after dusk, for that was when she walked, the witch whose eyes shone like pale moons. The locals whispered that the trees themselves had once been green, until her magic soaked the soil with violet light, staining every leaf and root with her sorrow.

Long ago, she was a healer, known for her laughter and her kindness. But when the village betrayed her, burning her home on a night heavy with rain, her cries twisted into spells.

Her spirit fled into the woods, her heart beating within the trees. From that night on, the forest glowed lavender, as though her grief had seeped into every living thing.

Those who wander too deep hear her whispers first, soft, like wind brushing through dry leaves. Then comes the smell of wild herbs and smoke. And if they ignore the warnings, they’ll see her: a shadowy figure cloaked in violet mist, her fingers outstretched as roots curl from the ground, binding their ankles.

She does not speak, for her voice was stolen by the fire. Instead, she hums, a haunting tune that still carries through the trees when the moonlight fades.

It’s said that if you listen closely enough, you can hear the melody even now, winding between the trunks like a lullaby for the lost. Few ever make it out once they do, for the Witch of the Lavender Forest does not like to be alone.

Sunday was a foggy day for our visit to Tatton Park in Knutsford to see the Red & Fallow Deer, sadly we didn't get any action from the big males rutting but a few of the younger males & females were up for it.
