Outcasts by Craig Schaefer (audiobook) - 8.5/10

I've been contemplating on if or what kind of way I could dunk on Moldy Book Woman in this review. But honestly, I'd much rather just say that this book rocks. Dalton is definitely my favorite out of the group, and the teachers are rad!

The Naked Gun [2025] - 8/10

I was kinda surprised how much I laughed at this one. The jokes were absolutely non-stop. Even if all of them weren't hits, the ones that did hit were very good. Especially the thermal vision scene and the snowman scene.

Sinbad: Legend of The Seven Seas [Rewatch] - 6/10

No matter your thoughts on this film in terms of comedy, the CGI monsters, etc. You cannot deny that the animations for Eris and her misty movements are so damn good.

Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy (audiobook) - 6.5/10

I don't know if it was the narration or how the story itself is paced, but I found myself getting lost a few times in where our characters were at. But overall, I enjoyed the story, and just how viscerally dark and disturbing it could be.

Senlin Ascends by Josiah Bancroft (audiobook) - 7/10

A very interesting world, with a main character that I can definitely relate to in some ways. I'll absolutely be continuing through the other books later.

Clerks 2 - 9/10

Just more of Clerks 1, and honestly I think this one is better. As much as I missed the blank-and-white of the original, I like the character writing in this one more. Especially in the ending.

This is one of my friend's favorite movie, and now I understand why. Kevin Smith is really good at setting up a scene to where you think it's going to go, only for the punchline to be a key piece of information being revealed that changes how the scene is portrayed.

Dogma - 9.5/10

I say this in earnest, this may be one of the best films I've seen (thus far) that discusses religion, or at the very least Christianity/Catholicism. Having both really interesting theological discussions, while also being completely stupid and hilarious.

Work on the new Daniel Faust novel is underway. Figured I'd share how it starts.

I drove into the desert alone behind the wheel of a rental Pontiac, headlights cutting across the big cold empty, mountains the color of rust rising in the distance. Melanie wanted to come along. Bless that kid’s heart. Busted and gutted and looking at the bleakest of eternal fates — endless reincarnation as the Paladin, forced to fight and struggle and die again and again until the last battle for the last world in the multiverse — and her first priority was to try and make someone else feel better.
I said no. These people weren’t going to want to see me. They’d be even less happy to see her, and I needed something from them. Whether it took words or violence, I wasn’t leaving without it.
The hacienda rose in the distance at the end of a rambling dirt road, electric security lights painting long angled shafts across the sun-baked stucco walls. I stopped at the front gate, killed the engine and stepped out into the frigid desert night, hands open and empty at my sides. Two kids came out to greet me. College age, toting rifles almost as big as they were.
“A sound suppressor?” I asked one. “We’re sixty miles from civilization, and by ‘civilization’ I mean a gas station run by a half-blind old man named Cooter. If you start shooting, who’s going to hear you?”
He didn’t appreciate my tactical insight.
“She doesn’t want to talk to you,” he said.
“Yeah,” I said, “but she’s going to anyway.”
He started to level the rifle. I flicked my fingers out, and a trio of playing cards leaped from the breast pocket of my tailored jacket, swirling around me in a fluttering circle.
“Rule one of firearm safety,” I told him. “Never point a gun at anything you don’t intend to destroy. Aim that weapon at me, and I’m going to assume lethal intent.”
