Some are defending platner because they know the dem party is failing and haven’t a clue what type of candidates can win other than “not old.”

Of course, if parties were more than shells of their former selves, this wouldn’t be a mystery.
Imagine working for the world's richest man and they post an image of you at work that looks like you are a refugee forced to find shelter at the world's bleakest office.
Absolutely obsessed with framing your employees sleeping on the floor as a humble brag

“Look how hard my team works” no dude you’re just bad at project management.

All of the Clinton-era conservative pearl clutching about the sanctity of the White House and the Democrats’ disrespect seems like it’s from another world now.

There was a whole scandal because Al Gore made fundraising calls from inside the building. They investigated the Clintons’ cat!
I'm old enough to remember when Republicans claimed to believe that the White House was such sacred space that getting a blow job in the Oval Office was grounds to remove a president from office.

2018 was just not that long ago, this is not acceptable behavior.
“Betcha not a single downvoter is a real combat vet. Feel free to back it up with facts, fags,” Graham Platner wrote on a 2018 Reddit thread. There are half a dozen more antigay comments attributable to him.

Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner admits using ‘indefensible’ antigay slurs in unearthed Reddit posts
"Today I find that stuff abhorrent," Platner told The Advocate. "And I am sorry that I ever used it.”

one of the interesting thing i have seen in the platner discourse is a refusal to confront a thing on its own terms. to his pundit supporters, platner isn’t a novice candidate with perhaps questionable judgment to be evaluated on his ability to win, but a symbol to wield against rivals
When given the chance, they will always type the URL in a search bar. Every time.

this nazi tattoo story has been weird because it has a lot of post-leftist engagement dipshits and unremarkable Obama era liberal speechwriters--normally locked in perpetual war--dying on the same hill to defend white supremacist iconography

new nazi Twitter has cooked many brains
Ryan Grim accusing someone criticizing Graham Platner's SS tattoo of being paid by the DSCC.

I think it is necessary to be willing to say "he might have beaten Susan Collins but electing a guy who kept a Nazi tattoo isn't a win"

I have seen a lot of people downplaying the Platner stuff as "he wasn't even that appealing" or "he didn't even have a chance of winning"

And I wish we wouldn't do that. I think that really undercuts the clear moral statement:

Even if he was a guaranteed win, he should still be out.

End of story.

SNAP is a sop both to grocery chains and agribusiness, but the fash hate it because it means the poor suffer less.
again SNAP is a conservative, business-friendly program to deal with the fact that produce rots. It should be universal and you'd have to do something weird to opt-out of it for a tax credit
I want more people to care that SNAP benefits are being cut off on November 1. 40% of SNAP beneficiaries are children. This is callous and vile.

Every imagined threat about socialism is modeled after real things that happened under capitalism
A lot of queer folks work at WotC and it regularly runs fundraisers to support Trans Lifeline. Designer and former Magic pro Carmen Klomparens is transfemme and I believe would certainly quit if WotC did a HP collab. (But if she ever does quit, I'd start suspecting why.)
I think trying to apply the color pie to any media or franchise will have an appeal to its fans. Prior to UB, plenty of folks celebrated some Star Wars fansets. I think a Ninja Turtles set would be bearable, fun even, if it was the only UB set in a year, not one of 4.
Honestly, that's part of it. But the bigger problem has been the frequency they've been going to the collaboration well. I think the observation that we've spent more time in New York than Lorwyn or Bloomburrow is more about the frequency of these sets than anything else.

just looking around at politics everywhere and a HUGE advantage Mamdani has is that he isn't obviously a fucking freak
Trump illegally demolishing historic parts of the White House for a vanity project is such an on the nose metaphor that an editor would ask the author to cut it from the manuscript.
