Update: Apologies I was due to be on Have I got News for You this week. We've now postponed until 2026.

To go on Question Time and speak up for migrants right now feels vital.

Sparing a thought for the folk of #Hobart #Tasmania (my place of youth) who look like they've been lumped with a vast infernal debt-laden building project that was strongly advised against by rigorous economic study but was pushed through anyway.
Experts...eh? What do they know? 😠

I did wonder…
I’m not very good at self-promotion, but here’s a repost for the Sunday readers out there 🙂 There’s a claim that is being repeated more often of late that cyder was a different and superior drink to cider. In this long read (perfect with a cup of tea or a glass of cider) I debunk this modern myth.
Modern Myth-Busting: The Cyder Controversi
Barry debunks the myth that ‘cyder’ and ‘cider’ are different drinks, tracing the spelling history and enduring cultural heritage of cider.

If it wasn’t for motor traffic and scooter riders’ personal mandate to dress as ninjas, the cycle commute at this time of year would be most pleasant.

Gulp! Starting an Ed Doc (part time around everything else). Send chocolate as I'll be a while.

eBay bargain. I don’t currently do a lot of ambisonics recording, but lugging around an Ambeo + cable + MixPre is a bit boring, so I’ll give this compact gadget a spin. A decent windshield will be the next thing to get.

Great mysteries of the world. Two radio-controlled clocks that update themselves, but one has an offset. No mechanical mis-alignment. Does the internet collective know about such things?

Ok hardly new, but bendy buses would have been more successful if they’d made accordion noises when going around corners.
Okay, lets do this.

One like, one opinion that's not on politics.

Such a gem of a show from the 90s. Many familiar faces. If you’re anywhere near the media, the Beeb and/or broadcast news in general, watch at least the opening 15 mins.

Farage’s plans don’t need to ‘work’. I don’t think that’s what he’s about.

Good walk to Hurst Castle. Lots of military and lighthouse historical stuff. Need to return with camera and sound recorder.

Only recently found out that one of my favourite non-fiction writers, William Langewiesche, passed away two months ago, after a long illness. His writing was compelling and covered a myriad of themes; his deep musings on aviation are encapsulated brilliantly in this essay collection.

Quite
see this annoys me because it's not 'AI', it's machine learning - it's been around for a while but steadily been improving over the last decade. this is a deliberate attempt to cement in the public eye that all of this comes under 'AI' so all the genAI shit must also be similarly good

Good read, especially if you’re following climate science and policy.
1. A characteristically brilliant explanation by @billmckibben.bsky.social of why Trump's attempt to force the EU to buy US fossil gas (please let's stop calling it "natural gas") will fail. Unfortunately, the UK is now locked into US gas dependence. 🧵 billmckibben.substack.com/p/how-the-gr...
