If you are a US trans/queer person looking to move to Canada for safety, I am happy to share my experience to help you understand your options. If you are an LGBTQ+ refugee from elsewhere in the world, I may be able to refer you to a resettlement path to Canada. No guarantees, but get in touch.

People-Ing Politics Network Mini-Conference
March 6-7, 2025, Washington DC
Amid threats to democracy, this conference will bring together social scientists and practitioners who study US politics with a focus on race, class, inequality, and the influence of social and cultural forces.

- how race, class, and other forms of inequality influence political engagement, representation, and policy outcomes
- the roles played by behind-the-scenes actors such as campaign staff, organizers, and bureaucrats, as well as by marginalized communities, in shaping political institutions and procesess.
visit https://www.essnet.org to apply; make sure to select this mini-conference when you do.

You don’t know me at all, but at first glance 1) they are both great and look good on you 2) I’d go with B because I think the softer bodice looks a little cleaner.

Y’know, I’ve heard a lot about bad French education from fellow millennials, so maybe at some point between when folks my age were in school and now at least some school boards realized “oh hey, probably we should teach CANADIAN French?” (I was raised in the US, so no direct experience.)

I’m curious how this changes by region. My kids’ accent leans Québécois - but I live in Ottawa, so, that’s not totally surprising. I’ve heard from friends who have their kids in the French system that a lot of teachers are African or Arab, which adds another accent angle. But in general, I agree!

Including audiobooks, not including re-listens, I think I’m around 40? Libby is a godsend for remembering this sort of thing…

I love the idea of the sort of "C+ physics project" universe, in which an unknowable entity outside of time and space span up a rocks-go-in-circles project as part of a research project, and now there's life in it- life all over it, actually- and it would be an ethics nightmare to turn it off

Small collection of Gaza related graffiti in Rome. There’s also been a demonstration and/or general strike every day, which as a tourist is annoying (so hard to get a darn cab) but as someone who studies social movements is impressive as hell.
A four panel photo, each panel showing a piece of graffiti. The first says Free Gaza in red, the second Palestina Libera in green, the third Stop Genocide in black, the fourth Stop Geno in red.

I just got a “would you like to join eduroam?” while stopped in traffic on a random street in Rome.

I’ve been in France six-ish hours and so far I’ve worked in a hipster cafe, bought grapes and cheese at an outdoor market, gotten a manicure, and eaten the weirdest vegan poke bowl of my life. Currently on my third-or-fourth coffee of the day. This trip is starting off pretty well.

I just sent a campaign update for Fadi, my friend in Gaza. Thanks to your donations, he was able to get a new tent for his family after their old one was destroyed and they were displaced. If you are able to donate, that would be wonderful!

I am planning some multi-stop work travel and was contemplating adding a (much desired, very fun) stop when a friend asked me "are you planning this trip for the body you have now or the body you had 20 years ago" and WOW I JUST CAME OUT TO HAVE A GOOD TIME AND I'M FEELING SO ATTACKED RIGHT NOW

I’m the sole neurotypical in my house, and my wife converted me to team no-top-sheet before the kids were born. By now my mom, who was raised with Very Proper notions of how to make a bed, just mutters when we come to visit “and they don’t want the top sheet for some reason…”

I have a homeschooled sixth grader living in my house! Who does not follow a traditional curriculum for neurodivergence reasons! Guess what I am still not exploiting her labor for my profit!

Like the problems with this so-called “school” are myriad but let’s start with “twelve year olds shouldn’t choose having a job over school.”
ajnabieh.bsky.social
I think work-integrated learning/experiential learning can be great (I’m academic coordinator for our school’s coop program). I also think having sixth graders work for someone else’s profit rather than focus on learning is a fucking human rights violation.
