An extraordinary new policy from the Defense Department that equates basic reporting methods to criminal activity has prompted a revolt among Pentagon journalists that could leave the nation's largest agency and the world's largest military without a press corps.

'Without precedent': Virtually all news outlets reject restrictive Pentagon press policy

The policy would force news organizations to refrain from publishing material not approved by the military. Media lawyers say it violates the 1st Amendment.

We’re getting photos of reunions between Israeli hostages and their families plus a detailed rundown of each of their hobbies and favorite soccer teams. Meanwhile Israel has warned Palestinian families in the West Bank not to celebrate their loved ones’ release under threat of arrest.

Times of Israel: “The IDF and Civil Administration confirmed earlier today that they had begun making warning calls to the families of the security prisoners set to be released, warning them against celebrations, and that they left notices in their villages.”

Very jarring how the media treats some lives as inherently and others not.

I am happy for hostages and their families to be reunited, but it’s shocking how little media attention is given to “how do Gazans grapple with the utter destruction of their homes, vast loss of lives, and ongoing famine.”

+ The way "hostages" is applied to Israelis hostages but not to Palestinians when the same articles admit "vast majority of Palestinian prisoners were held without charge" which reads to me like they were hostages, too.

Samer Abu Diak, released to occupied West Bank, who was beaten by Israeli occupation troops before his release.

He was held as captive for two decades and his brother Sami, imprisoned since he was a teenager, died in Israeli occupation captivity after 17 years imprisonment in 2019.
