Just a thing trying to write its first book.
Will be documenting the process and whatever else comes to mind with this account.

Defined by Damnation Preview
Chapter One – Overture All members of the Duralaans nobility were aware of the Tale of the Ten Kings. Cecilia herself had been told and retold the tale countless times over the seventeen year…
ajandersonauthor.com
Raph and Nath first met shortly after both had just lost so much that mattered to them. Nath's mother was dead and Raph's home had just barely survived the attack of a nightmarish entity, and both were searching for what might rebalance their lives.

Tell me a bit about the first time your character met someone important to them.

This could be a close friend, love interest, mentor, etc.

Did they like each other right away? Did they warm over time?

More so than other aspects of the sciences, alchemy is respected and demanded within many societies. While magic and the miracles of the gods might be enough for some, since the Severance, there are a growing number who prefer taking such things into their own hands.
Yap at me, #DecemberWorldbuilders! Does your world have any chemists or alchemists? Are they living at the time of your characters' journey or are they ancient history? What did they discover? What *is* chemistry or alchemy in your setting?

A Mystery Artwork commission for @ajandersonauthor.com of their character, Chora ✨

The base was sketched in pencil and I added the colour digitally. I'm having a lot of fun with these experimental comms!

I tend to name a side character if the current POV character would know their name and they're important enough to be referred to more than once.
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

When do you consider a side character to have earned a name?

Is it when they speak a line of dialogue? Have a certain amount of importance to the story? When it is confusing to describe the scene otherwise?

Anyone definitely could pursue scientific studies, but with it being a relatively lesser known practice compared to more arcane studies, there is a steep wall of difficulty that stops most from considering it.
Welcome to the first week of #DecemberWorldbuilders! This week is about SCIENCE (broadly speaking) (you can play along even if you're writing pre-industrial fantasy!)
Today's Q: Can anyone in your world participate in scientific research? Or is it reserved for elites?

Best I have right now is my website. Please do sign up to my newsletter if Defined by Damnation interests you, and from there I will be sending out all the links when they are fully set up.
Either way, thank you to Sage for this opportunity! These have been fun

It's been a lot of finishing off things that have been in the works for a while. The big one is, of course, releasing my debut, but the dnd campaign I've been running will also be coming to an end very soon.

Thank you, Kryan, for your incredible depiction of Eric Blackhand.
It was a pleasure to commission your services.
Latest commission, a gunslinger with a crystal-powered revolver and a mechanical right hand.
Had a lot of fun mixing grit and arcane tech here.

I'll go with the Nights of Vengeance. Such were labelled the days following the murder of the Goddess of Justice's family and the toll she extracted which only grew and grew. The atrocities of this event birthed the Infernal Plane of Diavollos and saw the Goddess banished.
Greetings, #NovemberWorldbuilders. Tell me about a legendary event that happened in your world's history. Perhaps a terrific cataclysm, or maybe something good like the growth of an amazing tree or the greatest rock concert ever. Something that the storytellers in your world love to sing about.

Ohhh I've thought of a few of these...
Artorius - Liam McIntyre
Queen Cecilia - Florence Pugh
Domina - Cody Fern
Elias - Idris Elba
Leonora - Elliot Page
Carlyle Lyre - Mark Coles Smith
Oedon - Morgan Davies
Seraph - Iman Vellani
Eric - I can't think of anyone honestly

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate! Feel free to come back to this one if you're busy today (or claim this is a work thing and use it to hide in the bathroom for a few minutes—I'm not judging!)

Fan-cast 1 character (or more) from your story. Doesn't have to be a modern celeb!

Not related to the main antagonist, but this does remind me of the secondary villain (whose name I won't spoil):

When it comes to the Immortal Severance, nobody really knows exactly what happened, besides a few key players in Santora. The official word is that Gallius Wilfre's takeover left the Immortal Plane ruined and disconnected, though many attest to the gods only going silent later
#NovemberWorldbuilders Heya, friends! In your fictional world, are there any lies or conspiracy theories (or maybe just incorrect beliefs) about a historical event? Is the government of your (fictional) world hiding anything? Please keep it fictional! No real-world stuff here, please!

Not a full anti-trope but
I feel like the idea of two characters kissing right before a big battle to cement a will they/won't they dynamic is a little overdone.
So while there is a pairing in Defined by Damnation who do love each other, I decided to never make them kiss.
#Novmemeber 25

Anti-tropes: what are some tropes that you've purposefully avoided in your WIP? OR, are there any tropes that you've put a twist on?

Leonora appears properly in one chapter, but they are probably the second most important character to the overall story. Throughout the Defined by Damnation, you are offered hints at what came of them following this, but are not given the whole truth.
Yet.

Do you have any side characters with their own adventures going on in the background of your story?

Do we get many glimpses?

Is it in the same genre as your main work? E.g. romance in the background of horror?

There are a number that have taken place, but the most relevant that is not elaborated on too heavily in DbD is the Scapegoat War. It was led by the devout sect of the Aeg Volaris, who believed the devil king Azazel to be a usurper who took the throne through ill means.
#NovemberWorldbuilders Does your fictional world have any wars in its history that are now over? What was the conflict about? What were the repercussions of it?
November 25, 2025 at 6:51 AM
When it comes to Leonora's feelings for Cecilia, I would say no. They fell in love with her because she offered them something they had never before known. But both have changed immensely since that time, and what the both of them need from a relationship cannot be found in one another anymore.
Today's random #Lovember #WritingPrompt for the #WriteSky #WritingCommunity:

Would your character(s) still fall for their first love(s)?
If it doesn't make sense to answer for romantic love, you can talk about some other sort of "first love".
November 24, 2025 at 2:24 PM
For me it's Marda Ro's turn to mania in Cavan Scott's Path of Vengeance.
She's taken from a lovable girl who just wants to spread peace, to a devout believer that death is the only solution to her problems, and it is executed in such a heartbreakingly understandable way.

It has to be one of the Sun Eater books for me. Probably Howling Dark because I think that's the one where Hadrian's biases are the most blatant. It's not that he is intentionally altering the narrative, but it is very clear that he is a man whose mind is shaped by his universe.

Frankly, Cecilia won't shut up about how important the Ashen Night was to Duralaans. It was an event where a great evil brought a number of people, who would typically disagree, into unity against it.
Centuries later, the current kingdom could use a little unity.
#NovemberWorldbuilders Let's talk about how the world's history directly impacts your main character (or some other important character in the world you're developing). Do they have an important ancestor? Was there a specific event, say a war or diaspora, that impacted their current life?
