One of my hobbies is rescuing #pigeons. City pigeons are prone to #stringfoot, where their feet get tied up in string, elastic, netting, & most often human hair. I catch them, de-string them, release them. I post with #CatchThePigeon over on Masto. Figured I should start a thread for it here.

Your Cherokee words for today.
The top word is English followed by how it is written in the Cherokee language followed by how it is spelled in English then how to pronounce it phonetically.

all these people protesting today in groups of a few dozen on the main streets of small towns in deep red Trump country - where they will absolutely take shit from their neighbors about it at church tomorrow or at work on Monday or next time they go to the grocery store - are braver than the Marines

We still have one of those but it's a dumpy little shitzu thing and I'm amazed he's not yet been stolen or attacked.
I am oddly nostalgic for the cigarettes and alcohol smell of some pubs. Cigarette smoke alone? Bleh. Throw in some lager and it's the smell of a cosy country pub 😅
We had a huge surge in pet ownership locally during lockdown. The park became rank. By the end of 2024 it was mostly pristine again (if you don't count the fly tipping).

Nothing to do with picking up. People just discovered pets are expensive & hard work.
Now we just need to work on getting people to bin the bags rather than tying them to trees, or flinging them off bridges or over walls onto private property... 😮‍💨

I just don't get it. They've done the gross part already??

Every minor failing you "admit" is just impetus for them to take it further. This lot won't be happy until every single trans or trans-supportive person is driven out of public life and public sector work entirely.

It's really tempting for public service organisations to apologise to right-wing and anti-woke complainants to try and placate them, especially if they're high profile, but you should never do that because they'll just escalate and escalate and escalate.

Thanks for putting the work in for us. Always doing public service!

I haven't had the capacity to keep up with moderation lists for a bit, but this one is really obvious, so I'm stealing some energy from Future Me: a list for the extremely obvious wave of inauthentic accounts following today's newly-created US gov accounts

Like people who flail around at wasps getting stung while I just sit there calmly waiting for them to go away.

Although I got stung a few weeks ago fishing one out of the bird bath 😣

Fortunately we've only got a handful of worrying animals in the UK. I think Australia got our share...
Had an art teacher who was very, very odd, even by art teacher standards. He once told us that when people asked him "what do you do?" (with the "for a living" only implied) he would respond with anything but his job, including "breathe".
Mosquitoes are the only insects I will squish in the house. But only the bitey ones. Because I have house rabbits & while they are vaccinated a myxo or haemorrhagic disease infection could still harm them.
I hear a lot that snakes don't actually want to bite you? They want to scare you away and go back to whatever they were doing beforehand because venom production is resource heavy.
Elephants similarly.

The EHRC has ditched its 'interim update'.

But their draft Code of Practice is a bigger threat than ever.

Here's what we need to do now 🧵
