btw, I do think there is a problem with students not being prepared for college! seems like covid school closures really affected many students. but when you start every op-ed with an anecdote about how ucsd students can't add 9+9...I'm going to be skeptical

also looks like the fact that it was timed might have disadvantaged some students with learning disabilities

It was completely anonymous (students did not put their name on the test), and the students understood that it was not part of their grade. It was positively framed (data to help their instructors adapt the course to their needs), and donuts were given at the end of the test. There was nearly 100% participation (138 students)."

Maybe we should calm down about “remedial students failing middle-school math” when the evidence is… an anonymous, ungraded test with donuts at the finish line.

A lot of this UPF research seems to treat ‘ultra-processed’ as synonymous with ‘junk food.’ But if UPFs are just nutritionally low-density foods, then we’re not isolating the effect of processing. Feels like an important distinction.

The Le Pen case is a critical one

There is no choice but to convict and punish politicians who violate the law. The risk of backlash is real. They may try to destroy the system to save themselves

But the trick is to remember, they were already destroying the system. That's why they were convicted!
